Lunching at Fazenda

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 | Life

Last Friday, we headed to Fazenda for lunch.

I’ve never had the lunch time menu before, though I knew to expect a very much cut down version of what they served in the evening. Overall, I thought it was quite disappointing though. Most of the options were not available on the lunch time – indeed, the only steak cut available seemed to be rump, although there might have been sirloin – but nothing beyond that. I was expecting the fancy stuff to be reserved for the evening session, but I was hoping there would at least be some good choice of standard steak cuts. Apparently not.

It’s gone!

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 | Life

Last Friday, we went for dinner at Chaophraya.

However, to my horror, I found they had removed their Thai curry, in a Yorkshire Pudding, on a steak dish from the menu! This, of course, was the greatest food ever known to man, and as such I will be writing a strongly worded letter to the management, insisting the dish is reinstated. Anyone who wishes to sign the petition, get in touch.

Birthday meal

At my birthday meal, we managed to eat our way through £557.54 worth of meat :D.

Viv’s birthday

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012 | Friends

Viv held her birthday party at Blackhouse, and despite having our photography course, we finally made it down there at 9:30 – still in time to order some steak! We both had the posh surf and turf, which was great, but I wish I had ordered a proper steak with hindsight.

You would think that having come from a photography course I would be able to take a good photo. But you would be wrong.

Wagyu

Thursday, October 11th, 2012 | Reviews

Wagyu, also known as Kobe (technically, Kobe is a breed of Wagyu), is the finest steak in the world. If there was an argument for the existence of God, and that that God had created all animals for man to eat, Wagyu would be it – their meat has a high fat content which causes wonderful marbling that makes it extra delicious.

Cattle Grid, part of the local ribs quarter that has formed around Norm, George and myself, were running a special one-night-only (that they ran twice) in which you could get Wagyu for the reasonable price of £35 (reasonable for Wagyu anyway), so we headed down.

It was superb. One of the best steaks I have ever had, if not the best.

That said, given it is normally three times the price of a fillet cut, I’m not sure I would opt to pay full price for it. I’m glad I’ve tried it, but I don’t think it’s as delicious as three separate trips to the stake house.

Gaucho

Saturday, September 8th, 2012 | Reviews

Over on the Know Leeds website, I’ve written a review of Gaucho, the steak restaurant on Park Row. I don’t want to duplicate too much of what I have written here, but it is amazing! If you love your steak, you must pay it a visit, it is easily as good as Blackhouse and they even bring out a meat board, with their various cuts on to show you!

Apparently, they’re the best steak you have ever tasted – or your money back.

Sam’s Chop House

Sunday, November 27th, 2011 | Food, Friends, Reviews

A few weeks ago, we headed to Sam’s Chop House for a meal while Kat was in Leeds. I had been there once before and had had a great experience, so I was looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel they really delivered. The steak was good, but not great. It also took a really long time for it to turn up and though I was hoping they could recover with desert, that proved similarly disappointing.

Afterwards we headed over to Brown’s to enjoy their fine range of cocktails.

Lunch at Blackhouse

Monday, November 7th, 2011 | Life, Reviews

With Blackhouse offering 40% off your food bill this month, I decided to take Elina there for lunch.

Despite being tempted by the Kobe steak given the discount, I eventually settled for a nice rump steak while Elina went for the posh surf and turf. As usual the steak was cooked to perfection, though I was a little disappointed by the rest of the experience. The steak knives didn’t cut the steak very well and sitting directly under the low hanging lights made for an uncomfortably warm dining experience. Still, always a pleasure to eat there.

Cattle Grid

Saturday, November 5th, 2011 | Life, Reviews

For my birthday, we headed out to Cattle Grid for some steak.

There was a total of fourteen of us, making us not only the biggest group in the restaurant, but also bigger than all the other groups put together lol. I was particularly honoured by the attendance of Katie Barr, Sarann and Moz, who attended despite their vegetarian and vegan lifestyles!

As with my first visit, I went for the ribs which were excellent, but overall I was a little disappointed – the food took a long time to arrive and it didn’t arrive all at once. Jonni also had to send his steak back. Never the less, I had an enjoyable meal and finished off with their strawberry ice cream, which is delicious though suggests I didn’t order enough meat.
