Can’t beat a good 11 hour sleep

Friday, May 26th, 2006 | Life

Ok, it’s 2 so I probably should be up by now but I didn’t get to bed till 3 am. Anyway this blog post needs to be put on hold as I’ve just had a phone call from Claire inviting me to see X-Men 3. So I said yeah that sounds good, when? 2:30! I can be on a bus if I rush at 2:10 but it’s still not going to get me there on time. So yeah, to be continued.

Another afternoon at the Quilted Lama

Thursday, May 25th, 2006 | Life

Had my maths exam this morning which went pretty well, I passed (I’m pretty sure, I obviously can’t be 100%) then after a quick trip back to Bod I headed to the Quilted Lama and have been drinking via 2. Next plan, to head off to Sarann’s and drink more. What can I say, it’s the student life. Seriously, that place is being kept alive by us, today is was really, really busy compared to normal and that is because there were two other groups of about 4-6 people in there and at one point there was another guy as well. Although most of the time we were the only ones in there.

Blogging via email

Hmm, this didn’t work too well…

Content-Disposition: inline

I’m emailing this, to see if the blogging by email thing works. Interesting=
to see if it does. If you are reading this then it probably has worked, if=
I’m reading this in my sent box it probably hasn’t ;).

Need to sort those formatting and random headers out.

The truth shall surface eventually

Something I want to re-visit quickly is last night’s activities. While over at the revision session we were walking about sleeping with each other (as you do) and Phil told B they couldn’t sleep together as he has a rule of not sleeping with anyone he is living with.

I asked Sarann if that’s why she wouldn’t sleep with me to which she replied yes. While she quickly changed her mind, her initial thought is clearly the one she believes which shows two things:

  • That she accepts that the house is partly mine
  • That she does secretly (or not as the case may be) want to sleep with me

I apparently want to sleep with her too. I suggested she sleep with Jimmy so that he would be more friendly to her and yet I somehow typed me rather than Jimmy. Is my subconscience trying to tell me something?

Changes to the Wendy House

Thursday, May 25th, 2006 | Life

Wooooooooh! Hold on a minute, they are making changes to The Wendy House? This I do not like! This is scary! Ok, let me calm you down and myself too. It is staying at the union.

Ok, there are two main changes, I’m going to talk about them in turn.

Summer changes
Wendy House is still going over the summer and thankfully it’s going to be staying at the union accross the summer too so it means the union hopefully won’t be closed for that long (as it’s a cool place to hang out, I’m presuming The Terrace will be open at least for some time).

However the union are refurbishing so that means that in July it will be two rooms (Bar Coda being closed) and in August Stylus will be closed. I’m glad they are re-doing Bar Coda as the venue itself sucks, anywhere that is indie never gets a nice place (except Tunnel Club and Indie Rox at Halo, those are the only exceptions, possibly in the world). It’s going to be well crowded with Stylus closed in August though!

September changes
The union are kicking Wendy House out of Mine! There is a whole different event going to be run which means that they will only have two rooms on a regular basis and Mine is a big room so they are still going to be a little short on space (well, they have loads of space compared to Fruity but I like clubs at 50% capacity (of which the Wendy House is more than that) because that’s still fairly crowded but has enough room to dance in (at 100% you absolutely can’t move)).

However on the Wendy House community they said…

Mutate room will be moved into the much larger and much improved “Bar Coda” room

Which implies to me that when they refurbish Bar Coda they are going to make it bigger as it’s capacity is only half the size of Mine at the moment. I don’t know how they plan to expand it as it’s surrounded by Mine and Stylus, albeit above them I think but that’s apparently the plan so maybe they are making it way bigger.

Conclusion
It’s going to be an interesting summer. I guess there won’t be as many people at Wendy House as normal anyway as a lot of the students will be gone although that sucks because I prefer students to locals and percentage wise it means there will be way more locals there.

I look forward to seeing the new Bar Coda but with the changes and Mutate taking priority when there are only two rooms in means that June will be the last time Hot Potatoes is run!

Revision

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006 | Life

I’m so bad at revision. Like when I’m in the mindset I can do it well, and when I am doing it, I do it will. But getting started when I have something else to think about is just impossible. I have my maths exam tomorrow, along with SY12 it was the one I was most worried about it. I spent from when I got up at 11 until 7 thinking about how I was going to start revising “any minute now.”

I really did try for most of the day before just giving up. I couldn’t do it. I’m working on a message board script at the moment and when a project wraps me up, I simply can’t do anything else, I can’t think or concentrate on anything else. It was a waste of my time even thinking about trying to revise really.

I did some in the end though, Sarann was holding a revision session so we all went to hers and got a bit done even though most of it was distraction given we took a break to eat longer than I had been there and there were like 6 of us there anyway :D.

Tuesday

Ok, another unoriginal title I know, but it sums the day up. So yeah, got a phone call from my dad this morning at 9:40 telling me he was near Bod and had mail for me so I collected that, got Fonze on a bus and and went back to bed for an hour before getting up at 11 to get into uni with plenty of time before my SE15 (Java programming) exam.

The buses were running weird and the one I was on which was 5 minutes or so late broke down after getting half way round Bodington so we had to walk up and get the number 1. But eventually myself, Graham and Michelle were all on the bus and made it to uni around 12:20 or something.

Our exam was in the Worsley building which none of us knew (well some of us knew where abouts it was but not where the exam actually was as it’s a big building). This wasn’t a problem as I built in about an hour’s redundancy time to find the room except that with the bus problems that had pretty much halved. We eventually found it with about a dozen of us randomly walking around though.

The exam was easy enough, way easier than actually finding the room :p. There is so much of that campus that you would never know about though, there are these massive 7, 8 story buildings that you simply don’t know exist unless you go looking for them.

Afterwards we headed to the Quilted Lama, arriving around 3 and leaving around 10. 7 hours of post-exam drinking :D. It rocks though, £1.35 for bottles of VK and Reef, that’s the cheapest I think I’ve ever paid for alcopops and that includes drinks offers which normally bring them down to £1.50 at best. It is so quite in there too, at 9:30 we were the only ones in there! And it never gets busy, given we have been there a few times recently we make up about 50% of their trade (we always go in a group of like 8-12 or us or something).

The Fruit Cupboard

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 | Life

I know, last night was Monday, Mental Monday but I went crazy and defected to The Fruit Cupboard. Started with drinks in The Terrace at 8:30 and we hit Fruit Cupboard just after 10 (we being myself, Michelle, Claire, B, Phil and Fonze).

The music was quite good, I was a little questioning it first but once I began to recognise stuff it was good. Although there was a massively notable lack of The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Seriously, it was an 80’s night, it that grounds for a lawsuit if they don’t play that? Still I was pleased that I actually got my request played, Kim Wilde – Kids in America.

£0.80 was pretty cool and although only certain drinks were £0.80, bottles of VK were only £1.50 which was good so I got through the entire night spending only £4.80 (compared to £11 at Bondi) so it was a cheap night too.

CS12 exam was soooo easy

Monday, May 22nd, 2006 | Life

My CS12 exam was just sooooo easy. Maths Chris finished 45 minutes into the exam. He had to wait for 15 minutes because you can’t leave during the first hour of the exam. Bare in mind this was a 2 hour exam. I left after 1:05, maybe 1:10. Although I know the exam isn’t designed to stretch you, you would have thought it would take you at least an hour given you can’t leave for the first hour.

But yeah it went really well. So only maths to worry about now. I also have two programming exams but I will walk them. Which is why I’m going out to Fruit Cupboard tonight :D.

Monday

Have my CS12 exam at 1. Going in to uni soon to do a bit more last minute revision. Then hitting Fruit Cupboard tonight for some back to the 80’s partying. Although I probably won’t be staying that late given I have another exam tomorrow. It’s SE15 though so it will be a walk through.
