Facebook Freeroll

Monday, August 22nd, 2011 | Distractions

Recently, myself and Norm headed up to the Grosvenor casino for their “Facebook Freeroll” tournament – a £500 guaranteed free roll that I figured was worth a punt. I managed to double up in the buy in period so didn’t need to re-buy, though I wasn’t impressed by the £2 for my coke, even if it was unlimited refills and a no registration fee evening.

I managed to keep going until 2am, at which point I still had 60,000 chips (with an average of 37,000), but I was so tired by this point I started making silly calls and was eventually knocked out after going all in on trip eights, which lost to a flush on the river. Could have been worse though, 21st out of 129 with no re-buy.

Fry up

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 | Friends, Life

As usual, Viki was pretending to be ill at Wendy, which meant she was feeling fully refreshed on Sunday morning having gone home early. You would think that would mean she could go and get breakfast, but apparently not. Luckily Fonze stepped up to the plate and delivered the goods, with Norm adding his cheffing expertise to prepare it all.

Wendy House

Saturday, June 25th, 2011 | Events, Friends

Last Saturday we hit Wendy House to celebrate Oli’s birthday (as if he wouldn’t be going anyway lol). Unfortunately Viki got in a mood and refused to come, and banned George from going as well.

Never the less we pushed forward and Sarann set around customising Norm appropriately for the evening. Turns out he pulls off the top hat very well.

Norm fires up the grill

Monday, May 30th, 2011 | Friends, Life

With Viki pretending to be ill to avoid paying for breakfast, like the cheap Mackem she is, and keeping George firmly under her thumb while at it, it fell to Norm to fire up the grill for this month’s post-Wendy fry up. He didn’t disappoint.

Elbow Room

Saturday, May 21st, 2011 | Friends, Life

Last week we headed over to Elbow Room to shoot some pool.

It’s a great place to play as they have plenty of room (as Norm pointed out – the name is probably derived from the fact you have enough elbow room to play) though they are American pool tables which means the pockets are massive and so the chance of you potting the white quickly becomes more of a when than an if, even if you put some thought into it.

In the end myself, Norm and George all came out three wins to two defeats, most of which were won or lost on the white following the black into the pocket lol. Fonze played well also, beating George in the last game, though he did have the advantage that he wasn’t drinking.

Soirée

Saturday, May 7th, 2011 | Friends, Life

Having another four day weekend in hand, we decided to throw a last minute soirée on Saturday. Norm did a fantastic job throwing a dinner together and once you throw in some Doctor Who and a few cocktails, you have yourself a winning evening.

Wendy House

Monday, April 25th, 2011 | Friends, Life

Following on from our cocktail based adventures we hit Wendy House which turned into a bit of an old school reunion with Sarann joining us and Norm making it down in the end as well!

Again, thanks to Kat, who I have just stolen the photos from.

Man date

Blackhouse, along with River Plate, fights for the title of best steak restaurant in Leeds. So when we heard that they were doing 50% off food throughout January, there was only one thing to do – book a table and cash in on the offer by ordering two steaks each!

So on Monday myself, Norm, George and James returned to Blackhouse for some more amazing steak. The food didn’t disappoint, nor did the wine, and given the relatively cheap cost, it was a great night.

The H-Soc

Saturday, November 14th, 2009 | Events, Friends, Humanism

I went down to the Humanist Society of West Yorkshire on Thursday to listen to Norm’s talk on student atheism. It was a good talk although oddly punctuated by an altogether not all their Christian who had randomly turned up and occasionally started talking about Jesus. Crazy times.

When the cats away…

Lil was working the night shift on Saturday and with myself and Norm both accidentally having the weekend off, I headed over to Seacroft for a beer or two.

I stopped off at Nando’s on my way to get some food and claim my free half a chicken :D. Of course I had to spend £5.80 to get the stamp and Tom didn’t want anything so I ended up with a chicken pita meal with chips and coleslaw as well as half a chicken.

Needless to say, I dined rather well that night :D.
