San Carlos

Friday, February 24th, 2012 | Friends, Reviews

Last week, we headed over to San Carlos for Michael’s birthday. Overall conclusion – poor quality restaurant, good quality company.

The restaurant itself was very disappointing – I had the steak, which just wasn’t that nice, it was cooked OKish, but wasn’t even warm by the time it made it to the table. The sides didn’t arrive with the meals either – they were just placed randomly on the table and we had to re-arrange them.

After all that, we were still a side missing and they had Tom’s main order completely wrong. I tried to grab a waiter to ask about the extra side, but that took rather a long time as no one came to check if our food was OK and they seemed to be rather rushed around.

Finally, we decided to order profiteroles for dessert, and thinking there would be plenty for the £5.10 we were paying for them, we decided to split them. When they arrived however, we found only three on the plate.

Unfortunately, I can only conclude that this was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I have had in Leeds city centre.

That isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy the evening however – the turn out was good and it was great to catch up with some people I hadn’t seen for quite a well, as well as finally meet the parents who have apparently heard a lot about me – all good stuff they assure me… 😀 Big thanks to them for part funding the meal too!

Thought Bubble

Monday, December 12th, 2011 | Friends, Life

Thought Bubble isn’t a comic convention. It’s a sequential art convention :D. I didn’t go or anything, but Si did, and afterwards, we went to Pizza Express. I keep ending up there, despite the fact I dislike pizza.

Nicolas’ leaving do

Thursday, September 24th, 2009 | Friends

I feel opening my blog post with a statement regarding the fact that last night was the third leaving do I had attended in the three months I have worked in this company of about a dozen of us would give the wrong impression. Contrary to what the Wikipedia article says, Rob doesn’t beat any of his employees with a cricket bat, or any sporting implement for that matter.

However we are a company of dynamic young go-getters as Mike describes us and are drawn in from all around the world. Nicolas is one such individual who later this month will be returning to France and so last night we headed over to Salvo’s for a farewell meal.

I can’t say I enjoyed the food which was some form of Italian tapas which I found strange, though with plenty of small courses it wasn’t too much of a problem as the food you didn’t like was soon replaced by a whole new dish.

Bella Italia by electric light

Monday, February 23rd, 2009 | Events, Friends, Life

Our plans having been thwarted last week we finally made it to Bella Italia this week. And interestingly enough had the restaurant to ourselves with the only other people in there leaving just as we were arriving. Made for very speedy service which was very nice.

I started with the Calamari which was interesting and then moved on to the Pollo Arrosto which is chicken cooked in some kind of herbs or sause that involves garlic and something else. I can’t actually remember what it was but it made for good eatign none the less.

As usual we finished the night with a good bit of KFC for dessert. It’s a winning combination.
