Late nights

Sunday, August 9th, 2009 | Life

Headed home on Wednesday night and decided to swing by my parents to pick up some mail. I ended up staying for dinner as our Canadian visitors, Diane & Nick had been preparing a huge stew so we ended up with a dozen or so of us crammed round the dining room table enjoying a rather nice meal.

I say crammed, my parents being quite so middle class have quite a large dining room table so it wasn’t that cramped lol. I really should make an effort to go home to the parents for dinner every so often though – it’s the only time I get fresh vegetables 😀 .

Dinner and ‘lancing

Sunday, June 28th, 2009 | Life

Wednesday I headed over to my parents for dinner for what I thought would be a relatively easy evening with plenty of time to sort out my room when I got back home.

As is turns out the NHS had just dumped a load of work suddenly on my previous job, Open Door Desig so I ended up heading over there to give Nick a hand ith it. It was relatively simple stuff to take care of though it was going on 10 when I left there so by the time I got home I didn’t have much time to sort my room out. I have since thankfully so I’m no longer living in a cave of boxes which is nice.

Pizza Express

Monday, January 26th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Sunday evening having rolled round again I headed out for dinner with the gang from work (even though Craig now works at a different store, Zoe doesn’t work there at all any more I only have two shifts next month!) to grab some food. The destination of choice this week was Pizza Express which I haven’t eaten at since we were down in London.

I started with the Salsiccia al Forno. I had no idea what it was when I ordered it and I have no idea what it is now. But it was very nice so I’m counting it as a victory. My Pollo ad Astra was very nice too despite them having run out of onions.

The one issue I do have though is that I always feel like we’re fat bastards when everyone sits round with an entire pizza to ourselves. I’m sure it’s actually no more food then when you order a big steak or whatever other dinner but it just seems a lot, perhaps because it is thin and stretched over the entire plate.

To be fair if I had felt that bad I probably would have said no to dessert but then who honestly can? Turns out I really should have because I was insanely full afterwards. Never the less though it was a fine meal and ended at the traditional way with more food at Colton Mill (for those who could fit any more in, I couldn’t lol).

As you probably noticed, yesterday was Christmas Day.

I quite enjoyed it to be honest. For the first time in, well, possibly ever, I didn’t have to get up that early. When I did I headed round to my parents for Christmas dinner which was excellent as always. I spent a few hours with the family which is perfect in terms of a managable amount of time and then headed off back home in the evening for Christmas dinner at my house.

Norm wasn’t working after all so had very kindly agreed to cook the dinner which made things even easier as I pretty much just rolled up, did a bit of tidying and that’s about it. In the end there were six of us which is a good number in terms of being able to cater easily enough while still having a good group there. So all in all, a good day.

Dinner

Friday, December 5th, 2008 | Life

I went for dinner with my parents on Wednesday. It was going to me with my grandparents as well but you know old people and snow. I mean it’s not like my dad was already at my grans so it wouldn’t have really been much of an effort of that my parents have a Nissan X-Trail designed for rough terrain in any weather 😉 .

But then that just means more chicken for me really so who’s complaining?

Dinner party

Monday, July 14th, 2008 | Events, Humanism, Life

Camping having been cancelled, it was down to Chris the wonder kid to throw together some kind of A-Soc event to ensure we did something over the weekend. So, us now having a dining room and all we throw together a dinner party for those of us that were still around over summer.

In the end it turned out rather well – we managed a full seven courses as well as offering people a choice with several courses and best of all, nobody died. Nobody at all. There was a turn up for the books indeed. So given I haven’t really cooked for like a year or two now, I’m going to chalk it down as a victory.

It also presented some interesting experiences. I gave the port a try, which I didn’t find very drinkable but there you go, it wasn’t particuarly good port anyway, and some of Norm’s fancy Brazilian coffee which I did manage to stomach. I think that is a sign of me getting old. But should be good for all nighters I guess. Not that anyone is going to be pulling out a cafetiere during such times.
