Given that Venla was due to arrive a few weeks before, I knew my 30th birthday was probably going to be a busy one. We started by going to register Venla so she could be a real human being, officially.

For lunch, we dropped by Miller & Carter. They have a starter platter containing fish, chicken and duck, then we had steak, with a bacon and honey mustard salad. I think that makes five animals. Finally we finished off with my parents for dinner and seeing family. Not a bad way to spend a day.

Do not tell TGI Friday’s know it is your birthday. They will make a lot of noise.

As my friends and I get increasingly old, it’s nice to remember that some people are still young guns with hopes and dreams. Mini-Gijsbert, better known as Samantha, is one such person.

It turns out that it is really difficult to buy a present for a one year old. Even soft toys are often come with a two plus years age rating. As one of my other friends pointed out, I should probably have just got a present for Gijsbert and Weili. Like a large bottle of gin for example.

I have some nice photos. However, I am not posting them because I do not know what percentage of the people who read this blog are pedophiles. So instead, here is a picture of the birthday cake.

It is made by Maxi’s Chinese restaurant. Apparently they are a good place to get a cake made as they only require 24 hours notice.

By the time you read this, I will hopefully be dead. Having enjoyed a whirlwind rock music career including a hugely popular album and world war, I will have overdosed on some kind of drug, probably heroin, and thereby before committed myself to the hall of fame of rock music history.

On the off chance that this has not happened, please bring presents.

For Norman’s 30th, we decorated the house, made him a cake (and by made I mean his mum made it but Cara carried it from the kitchen to the dining room) and even sang happy birthday with a guitar accompaniment.

For my dad’s birthday we went to Cattle Grid in Leeds. We had ribs.

With Fonze getting another year older earlier this month, we planned a three part celebration.

First, I made him to go flag football training. What more could you ask for on your birthday? Actually, he wanted to come, but it all worked out for everyone 😀 . For lunch, we went to his parents. His mum does a good Sunday lunch.

Finally, we finished up going to Chaophraya for dinner. I had wanted to go to Saengarun but unfortunately it had closed down. The advantage of Chaophraya though is that you can order the birthday cake where they come with the drums and all the staff sing happy birthday. Despite his accusatory and threatening tone, I think that was his favourite part of the day.

Before we disappeared down to London, I went for food and drink at Chaophraya to celebrate my birthday. Myself and Elina ordered one of the banquet menus, of which we ate about half and took the rest home in a carrier bag full of food.

In celebration of Gabrielė’s birthday we headed down to one of the best Chinese restaurants in Leeds – Red Chilli. Most of us settled on the Courtship menu that came with three starters – soup, a platter then shredded duck – followed by a main course of many dishes.

Elina opted for the baby octopus and it was exactly as it sounds – lots of little baby octopuses.

We also got Gabrielė a “everything tastes better with cat hair in it” mug on a count of her being a crazy cat lady.
