The students are back at Bondi

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006 | Life

While it’s true I always identify myself as a student rather than a local (or more accurately reserve an entirely seperate group for myself, the “student local hybrid”), the students being back at Bondi is one of the negative consequences of term being back on again. It’s packed, all the girls seem to pair up faster and it’s harder to get drinks plus you have to queue to get to the toilet and even to go down the stairs.

So yeah, went to Bondi, got there a little after 10 to avoid the queues. Quite successfully done, walked straight in. Got asked for student IDs though, to be honest I think he should recognise me by now :p. I know he sees a lot of people but this is my 4th consecutive Mental Monday and the bar staff recognise me (one of the guys pointed me out as I walked in to the girls working the bottle baths).

I only drank 5 bottles but I’m happy with that, that takes it to £1.20 a bottle which is good value (if you take £4 off the entry price to account for regular club admission which is only realistic). Michelle got through 3 bottles in 6 minutes and 6 in about 15 and ended up throwing up before midnight before continuing to party on (like a true student :p). It was open until 3:30 again, maybe it’s a summer thing, but I didn’t stay that long anyway as I wanted to get the last bus home and Michelle really needed to get home to get some sleep.

Maths Chris stayed there dancing with Bee. That’s gossip item number one :D. Number two being (although this should probably take a higher priority really) that George pulled again. He’s shaved his head which is needlessly confusing. When he first came in I thought he was Dean :D. He could actually be Dean’s twin brother if he kept his hair that short. He just doesn’t look like George without the hat. No sign of SJ or Laura but ah well. I still had fun. Music wasn’t too bad, they deviated a little from the standard playlist but they got most of the generic rock which I go for so it was pretty cool.

I’m also a, and I quote “Bondi legend” now apparently. Which is really cool but I mean, I haven’t been that much :D. Until recently, then it’s become a little obsessive as I’m thinking of going on Thursday to check it out on a non-Monday night. Plus we arranged to go next Monday at Wendy House too.

Right, I think that’s all I have to say for this post-clubbing round-up. I need food now and I should probably drink something too. Need to be up in like 7 hours as well. I’m not sure I have anything other than chocolate. I need to get my microchips store back up.

I don’t have time to blog

Monday, April 24th, 2006 | Life

Yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking. “You clearly do have time to blog if you are blogging.” But I don’t really. More to the point, I shouldn’t be blogging, I should be doing other stuff. But lets face it, even if you don’t have time to blog in reality, you still can find time to blog by ignoring other things even if they are really important. Because blogging is probably the most important thing in the world.

So yeah, I was in DEC-10 until almost 6 pm working on my SE15 coursework (myself and Michelle also put the finishing touches to your SE12 coursework which I must remember to hand in tomorrow) and then got home, opened my mail (bank statements, nothing exciting), fixed Ian’s computer then went down to dinner. Got back at 7:30 which would give me two hours to update my websites, sort out my hundreds of emails and get ready to go out.

Except then Sophie pulled me away to fix her computer (I was unable to but apparently she spoke to Maths Chris who couldn’t fix it either. But I’m guessing it was more a case, he didn’t want to fix it when he’s an ISS helper without it going down as a job as I know I wouldn’t want to).

So I’ve got some of the more critical website updates done, the forums will have to wait and now I need to find a way to check my email accounts when my laptop doesn’t have internet access because my network is still down. I don’t want to unplug my desktop but I may have to. I could use webmail I guess but it is so much faster to use my email client so it wouldn’t be worth it.

On top of that, I need to send an email out about film making society, I’m so screwed. Ok, I’m going to stop blogging now and get stuff done.

Maths George

We’re thinking of combining Maths Chris and George into some kind of super hybrid. Thoughts?

I’m in uni

Monday, April 24th, 2006 | Life

And it’s been a while. So long in fact that I was actually logged out of my blog and it didn’t remember any of my previous URLs for my server in the address bar which I visit every day when I’m at uni normally.

Went to the Hyde Park Pub yesterday to meet Michelle, Sarann and Maths Chris for a drink then myself and Michelle headed back to mine to watch TV. The last bus left well early though as it was due at 11:26 and had gone by the time we got there at 11:21 (or was over half an hour late which I doubt) so Michelle ended up crashing at mine.

I dunno what’s happening tonight, probably Bondi which should be fun. Fonze is mising this one though as a) he’s short of money and b) I can’t really confirm the plan until the last minute as if everyone in my house is off somewhere else we’re going to divert plans to all go together providing it’s somewhere fun.

Back at uni

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006 | Life

I’m back at uni finally although not happy to be back. My financial situation is dire and I didn’t get up until 12:20 or something so I didn’t get here until like 3:30 and haven’t finished unpacking my a long way.

More importantly my router seems to have died so I can only get one computer on the internet at the moment and I appear to have left most of my network cabling at home so it’s just kicking me when I’m down.

April Wendy House

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006 | Life

Just got back from the Wendy House. Got the bus down with Fonze and John just before 9 and made it to the union a little before 9:30. The Terrace was closed so we had a game of pool when went to the Old Bar for a few drinks before heading into Wendy House at 11. Which is an hour before Sarann made it in :p.

There were actually quite a lot of people there. Sarann brought Liz, Emma (a friend of Liz’s) and Claire plus a load of other random people. I recognised a load of people too. Which I’m going to list now :D…

  1. Matt (Spikey haired Matt, Old Bar)
  2. Matt (Jersey Matt, Old Bar)
  3. Jay (Old Bar)
  4. Ash (Stylus)
  5. Tony (Stylus)
  6. Andrew (Rock Soc Andrew, Stylus)
  7. Dominic (Stylus)

I might have missed some people. Plus Sophie was there with relatives so there was quite a group of us. We ended up planning a group trip to Bondi (well it’s a pretty informal plan involving myself, Fonze, John, Claire and Sophie) but never the less, something is in the works. A week on Monday as Fonze needs a week of Bondi due to financial considerations and I don’t know what is happening on Monday anyway as it’s the first party night with my house.

So yeah, back to Wendy House. We spent some time in Mutate (in Mine) because John’s into that then around 11:50 we moved back to Stylus to find Sarann (after all, she must be there by now right :D). We ended up spending pretty much the entire night in Stylus, not that I am complaining, it’s where we usually hang out although I did take a quick wander back to Mine to see if I could see the girl I was half dancing with (she was sort of half in our circle and we had eye contact and smiling, I figured I might as well make a move if she was still there).

The problem with Wendy House, if there is on, is that there are very few single girls at these events. Almost all of them are paired up. Which is why Bondi is quickly coming up to question Wendy House’s status as the best night out in Leeds for me.

Still, overall a great night though. It ended too quick but we ended up spending like 15-20 minutes outside saying goodbye to everyone, especially as Sophie knows everyone :p. We then went to Luckys and got some food then got a taxi home. Ok, so it’s nearly 4 am now and I need to be up at 10 at the latest to update my websites and get my stuff packed. Should be a fun day :D.

Emo Today overhaul complete

Friday, April 21st, 2006 | Life

I now consider the overhaul of Emo Today complete. Well technically the overhaul was complete yesterday although I made some more tweaks to get the layout and such looking better now we’ve coverted to XHTML 1.0 and added a sitemap too.

The real work today though, which is why I now consider the work complete (this is of course the building work – maintaining and creating new content is the work from now on which is a continual thing) is that we have added two new sections to the site. The first is a blog, appropriately titled Emo Blog which will feature quick reviews, news and other such so the site can easily be updated regularly.

Secondly the guide has also been added so that you can find out more information on whatever topic related to the emo genre you are looking for (providing you are only looking for one of three topics at the moment but it will grow :p).

Emo Today gets a revamp

Friday, April 21st, 2006 | Life

Emo Today is getting an overhaul. It’s mostly client-side, the HTML has been tidied up and aligned properly, the big tabs tables have been replaceced by a nice small list with a load of CSS coding on it to make it look basically the same and a few other changes that while they are client-side they won’t actually get noticed as they are mostly in the code.

I’m also working on adding a blog to Emo Today which will be known as Emo Blog. Anyway yeah, have a browse round the new Emo Today website. See if you can notice the changes. I think the only visible one is that there is no border between the tabs and the strip under the tabs. Oh and there might be a bit bigger gap between inline images and text too.
