The Viaduct

Sunday, April 4th, 2010 | Friends, Life

Kate organised a gay night out last week (we’re not entirely sure whether this is her way of slyly trying to tell Steven something or not) and we ended up in The Viaduct on Lower Briggate.

As soon as we walked in there a guy with a good ten years on Steven asked him to get his penis out so he could have a play with it. Scary times. What is more interesting is the fact that it is almost acceptable – as Rich pointed out, you would never get away with that in a heterosexual environment if that is the right description to give, but it’s for some reason just acceptable in a gay bar?

This was soon followed by drag cabaret. This really annoyed me because of the obvious technical inaccuracies. For example her singing was coming out of the PA system but she clearly had no microphone, if you can’t even bother to pretend to be miming then it’s just a poor effort in my book.

And why where their sex catalogues, everywhere?

And somehow people still wonder why I preach the virtues of a relaxed night chatting in Wetherspoon’s.

Saturday night with Moogle and The No Man

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 | Friends, Life

Given both myself and Norm had a rare Saturday off for various reasons, I headed over for a bit of food and a few beers on Saturday night.

It’s mental really, I moved to the city centre so I could walk home after drinking sessions and I end up having to go all the way out to Seacroft. Still nothing makes you feel better than getting on a bus and observing the type of people also using said service – it makes you feel so much better about your own life 😀 .

Unfortunately X-Factor has now started again but once we got that out of the way we had some really good discussions as we sat and drank long into the night. What a Saturday night should be really.

Enemy territory

Sunday, June 28th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Having got the night off on Saturday and Kate being bored as well we decided to hit the pub along with Norm, Liz, Oli and Si. Not that any of us live near the Deer Park any more but I still really love the pub and most of us drive these days (not like back in the day) so it seemed like a good enough choice.

Afterwards we headed into town which has always seemed like enemy territory on Saturday night – full of angry drunken locals, many of which I probably know and choose not to associate with for good reasons. Still Bourbon is always a good place to be as it wasn’t overly busy but there were enough people there to keep it lively.

Saturday night’s alright (for working)

Sunday, May 31st, 2009 | Life

Yesterday there were no less than seven of us on the close.

I mean, what do you even do with that many staff? This only actually had an effect from 10pm or so onwards as we had a reduced night shift because of it but it did mean we walked out a little over half an hour after closing – the fastest close I’ve ever done.

With all the post-close drinking and talking I didn’t actually get home until gone 3:30 though where I found John, Tom and Michelle still up drinking after a rather eventful evening containing such wacky events as Liz punching B in the face. Crazy times.

Gascoigne

Monday, April 6th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Having done my open on Saturday I found that I had the evening off for once which made of a strange feeling. Nobody in the house really doing anything I headed out to meet Craig and Zoe for a few drinks at the Gascoigne in Garforth which is a pub I haven’t actually been in before.

It seemed a nice enough place, big with plenty of space and the drinks were reasonably priced at least for a pub in Garforth (which means they aren’t actually that reasonable of course 😉 ). It just being the three of us we weren’t out for too long but I did appreciate the novelty of being somewhere other than work on a Saturday night.

House party

Friday, March 20th, 2009 | Life

Saturday was our long awaited awesome house party. Well, I say “awesome”, I wasn’t actually there because it had finished and everyone was asleep by the time I got there. What a rager.
