Ill

Friday, September 18th, 2009 | Humanism, Life

Day two was Tueday and I was still feeling crap but decided to push ahead with my plan of trying to drink through it. After all, with it being an A-Soc social night it’s pretty much my job. I wasn’t even taking it easy and with it being the last day of the wine festival, when Graham tried to order a glass of wine he came away with the bottle.

On the negative side it didn’t make me much better. But the on plus side it didn’t make me any worse – I work up Wednesday morning feeling rough but with no signs of a hangover so I once again seem to have managed to stop drinking at the appropriate time and get enough water in me.

Wednesday night I finally gave up – relucantly cancelled on York Brights and headed to bed which I was in before 6pm.

I was feeling ill on Monday but with work to be done I headed round to Rich’s flat with George to get editing away on Something Good ’09.

I had already spent three hours the day before on pre-editing and Rich had spent the morning doing some too so luckily we were able to dive straight in and get things done. Even with this big head start it was still 1am by the time we were finished as well as being several bottles of wine later.

The result, however, was well worth it.

Something good is going to happen

Sunday, September 13th, 2009 | Distractions, Humanism, Life

Here’s me busting a groove earlier today.

I spent the day on set filming an Atheist Society parody of Utah Saints’ Something Good ’08, a little idea I had had for an intro video for the society this year.

It was actually a really quick shoot – we didn’t kick off until 4pm and we were finished by about 8pm. Of course this is where the real world begins – since getting home I’ve spent nearly three hours doing the pre-editing for the camera I have – we still have all the editing to do on top of that and that is just one of three cameras we were using!

Never the less the film is now in the can so with a little bit of magic editing and after effects we should have something pretty good.

Till the steak runs dry

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 | Events, Humanism, Life

Last night saw the usual weekly A-Soc summer social at the Cuthbert Brodrick for much steak and drinking. As ever a good time was bad by all, except Rich, who we managed to drive crazy with talk about the logo. On the plus side however, Kate and Steven are now “official” according to Rich.

Interestingly Sophie couldn’t make it and Paul cancelled on us at the last minute leading us to the conclusion that Paul is actually in control of, and indeed has been in control of, the society all along through his puppets, myself, Norm and now Sophie. We always suspected, but never guessed…

That Friday feeling

Sunday, September 6th, 2009 | Events, Friends, Humanism, Life

Having presumed I had made it through the weekly bout of A-Soc events I soon found myself up two hours early on Friday morning to attend a design meeting because there was opposition to continuing the discussions in the main committee meeting the night before.

So myself, Zoltan and Michael met up in Tasty for a breakfast meeting at which I thought was rather productive though it later turned out this was not a view held by all parties.

This resulted in A-Soc work dragging on long into the night as we are still trying to work out an effective logo we can use for the society this year. I also spent a large amount of timing implementing new features on the website and checking over everything, updating copy, etc. Let it never be said the society doesn’t keep you busy!

Less talk, more craft

Sunday, September 6th, 2009 | Humanism, Life

Wednesday night saw the A-Soc craft session to try and figure out what we were going to do in terms of our public image and branding as well as making some stuff for freshers’ week. We spent a good hour or so debating how to turn a large piece of cardboard into a box before Norm turned up and pointed out we could just use a ready made cardboard box which would be significantly easier.

Thursday saw our first proper committee meeting of the new year at which we worked our way through almost twenty points in a bit of a marathon meeting which went on for 4 hours.

Having been up until 2am for the meeting the day before and at the social the day before I was glad get to bed on Thursday night having done nothing but be at work or at some kind of A-Soc meeting since Monday! Fun times.

All for the love of steak

Tuesday night was the usual A-Soc social though attendance was a bit slow to pick up – it starts at 7pm and people actually waited until then to turn up. So myself and Tom having got there at 6:20 because I expected people to already be there by then had a bit of a wait for company. It did however provide a rather nice gap for us to sink a few first.

Reassuringly, Paul put in an appearance having been missing for the previous few weeks so it was good to see him again. And, as ever, the steak was very nice.

Crazy Tuesdays

Thursday, August 27th, 2009 | Humanism

We started off Tuesday with a committee meeting which didn’t go too tell as it was noiser than we had anticipiated in the pub. We also had far more to talk about than we could possibly fit into one meeting and we had several non-committee members in attendance who had shown up also so it didn’t make for the most productive meeting.

The rest of the night went well though with much eating of stake and drinking of alcohol as should be expected from our Tuesday nights these days.

Zoltan and the steak

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 | Friends, Humanism, Life

A-Soc social rolled around on Tuesday though despite it being steak night the Cuthbert Brodrick had, somehow, managed to run out of rump and sirloin steak! Luckily we were all ordering mixed grills so it worked out alright in the end.

What followed was a night of long debate and drinking – Rich getting through two bottles of wine by himself! Probably suggested to him by Kate who then proceeded to try and molest him.

Steak night

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 | Humanism, Life

Tuesday night saw the second A-Soc summer social since the move to Cuthbert Brodrick. It was a fine move indeed with it being steak night! So having enjoyed a variety of steaks (including a mixed grill for myself) we settled in with some drinks and chatted the night away like old times. Apparently some people were intoxicated but I can’t say I noticed.
