Toastmasters Area 15 2015 humorous speech contest

area-15-trophy

It’s good to have the trophy back on my shelf. Having won the club contest last month I was feeling more confident and managed to put in a sold performance at Area, enough to get me through to Division anyway.

The standard of the competition was very high. I had forgotten how tough Area 15 can be, having so many talented speakers in it. It is a shame that we can only send one contestant through to Division.

LCT humorous speech contest 2015

Tuesday, September 29th, 2015 | Life, Public Speaking

Earlier this month I competed in the Leeds City Toastmasters 2015 humorous speech contest. Even though it was only club level I was quite nervous. Perhaps because it was at club level, which is not a level I want to go out at. Mostly though because I has not competed in a speech contest in 18 months due to my year as Area Governor.

Lukcily I managed to take victory with my speech “Hell in High Heels”. I will be posting the video after the whole contest is over.

Area 15 Autumn 2014 contest

Wednesday, September 24th, 2014 | Public Speaking

Last Sunday I chaired the Area 15 Autumn 2014 contest. It was a tough one. I was in the Scottish Highlands the week before so I was trying to organise it from an area of the country almost devoid of phone signal.

There were only twelve people there on the day. However, thanks to the professionalism and enthusiasm of the members we were able to cover everything and run the contest. Even Elina was drafted in to count the ballots!

The Regent Hotel in Doncaster were an excellent host as always. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the contest and helped out, and well done to everyone who competed! Good luck to Andrew and Anthony who will be representing us at Division level.

Division contest

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 | Public Speaking

At the end of April I acted as Chief Judge for the Toastmasters Division E International Speech & Evaluation contest. I did not go perfectly, but the general feedback seemed to be that nobody realised, so I am taking that as a win.

Congratulations to Gayna and Owen who won the contests. Most of all, congratulations to Doncaster Speakers and in particular Shelagh, our Contest Chair, for a fantastically well organised day.

Area speech contest

Last week I had the pleasure of going to Sheffield for the Toastmasters Area 15 International Speech & Evaluation contest. At said meeting I was elected as next years Area Governor. It remains to be seen whether that counts as winning or not ;). Congratulations to Billal, Jane, Gail and Pauline who proceed on to Division.

Division E International Speech Contest

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013 | Public Speaking

At the end of April, I travelled to York to compete in the Division E International Speech Contest final. You can see a video of speech in a previous post, albeit it at a different competition to this one. I only managed third place, but live and learn – only four months until the next one!

White Rose 2013 speech contest

Sunday, April 21st, 2013 | Public Speaking

Last month saw White Rose Speakers hold our 2013 international speech and evaluation contest. Actually, we held a speech showcase rather than a contest as I was ineligible to compete due to already having won at Leeds City, so we elected Erik is our club representative to take our club to the area contest.

Meanwhile the evaluation contest was more hotly contested, and I was worried that running out of time hurt my evaluation, but it seems everyone suffered from a little of that and I ended up taking first place. I’m looking forward to learning from these lessons and moving on to the area contest.
