Brett, steak and cocktails

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012 | Friends

Last week, my friend Brett was up in Leeds. He wasn’t up for a particularly good reason, but never the less it was a fine opportunity to catch up, so we headed over to the Cuthbert Brodick to take advantage of more fortuitous timing – Tuesdays are of course steak night at Cuthbert!

It really did make me wonder why we don’t do steak night more often. It’s like £7 for a mixed grill and a drink! You just can’t beat that.

After, we headed over to Browns, to take advantage of their good range of non-alcoholic cocktails. Their menu seemed somewhat more limited than it has been previously, but maybe I just have a distorted memory of the good old days.

Cafe Rouge

On Friday, myself, Si and Sarann headed into town to grab some dinner.

We ended up at Cafe Rouge in The Light, which was looking fairly empty for a Friday night – ideal for some good conversation. Service was a little disappointing given how few people were in there but the quite atmosphere was enjoyable.

The food was mediocre, I went with the Steak Rouge which was OK, but given there are so many great places to have steak in Leeds, it wasn’t any more enjoyable than say the £6 steak I had enjoyed at Wetherspoon’s the previous Tuesday.

Afterward, we headed over to Browns for a few rounds of cocktails. Apparently they will mix anything to your order but we didn’t put them to the challenge and rather opted just to work out way through their signature menu.

After a few rounds of cocktails and the wine I had had at dinner, I found myself leaving the bar somewhat intoxicated whereas Si, the supposed teetotaler until a year ago, didn’t seem to be feeling it. Maybe Si is a secret alcoholic after all?

End of Year Ball 2010

Monday, July 12th, 2010 | Events, Humanism

Browns played host to this year’s End of Year Ball in Leeds, with them providing us with no less than two private rooms – one for the reception and one for the dinner. As a bonus my fish came as an entire fish too.

Browns

On Saturday I indulged my final act of hedonism before ending the Christmas amnesty on Campaign for a Debt Free Chris by heading to Browns for a meal with Kieran, Si and Sarann.

The food was good, myself and Si both opting for the Browns Bacon Cheese Burger which rose to the class the of the restaurant very well. The company was equally good too as we whiled away the hours reminiscing about back in day. Good times.

Drinks with Sophie

Friday, January 16th, 2009 | Friends, Life

There are a lot of people who I haven’t spoken to in a long time. Many of these I haven’t spoken to intentionally but there are still a good view I simply haven’t had chance to see recently. And so having fired off a few texts, Facebook wall posts and the odd email or two I ended up with a few more appointments for my diary, one of which was meeting up with Sophie tonight.

So, myself, Sarann and Sophie headed to Browns for a much needed drink with us all havinf arrived straight from work. Not that any of us were actually drinking alcohol but you just can’t beat a metaphorical pint. With their crazy pricing structure, I ordered 3 bottles of Pepsi and it cost £5.50. Do the maths, that is 183.3p each. Strange, strange people.
