Last weekend, we headed up to the Yorkshire Dales for Elina’s birthday. We stayed at Hollins Hall, which is part of the Marriot chain.

It was quite a nice hotel, they have a big pool, although there were people in it which was always annoying and their spa bath was a bit rubbish. It was nice to have a decent length pool though.

The service was excellent, and the staff were friendly.

We dined in their Heathcliff’s Restaurant, which was OK, though I was a little disappointed by the roast, as the Yorkshire pudding was a bit hard and crispy. The white chocolate sauce that came with the profiteroles was a winner though.

Not enough places have a “gin of the week”.

Not selling loose carrots when it snows is actually genius marketing by Sainsbury’s.

So, this happened.

Elina strongly dislikes onions and tomatoes, so I think I was pretty safe from her stealing some of my salad.

Recently, we noticed that there is a Frankie & Benny’s at Crown Point Retail Park, just round the corner from our house. This is yet another place where you can get a half decent rack of ribs that is a bit too close for my waistline not to suffer.

That said, what I was most impressed with when we went there was their house salad. Without stereotyping too much, it didn’t seem like the kind of restaurant that would do a good salad, but it turns out I was wrong.

Over the holidays I managed to clear out 15 bags of rubbish to some space for new stuff. After all that though, I don’t actually seem to have made that much space :S.

Here is this year’s gingerbread house. Bit more of a success than last year’s.

For some reason, Miah’s Kitchen had a limo. Bryce wanted a picture next to it, but I couldn’t fit the whole car in lol.

Last weekend, myself and George headed up to Weetwood to watch the Leeds Celtics american football team play.

It was dry, but never the less very cold and due to what we suspect was the ambulance getting lost, the game didn’t kick off until an hour after it’s scheduled time – a risky move when you have so little day light these days.

By this point, we were too cold to watch the whole manage, but in the first half Leeds Celtics scored two touchdowns, both with two point conversions, against the Northumbria Mustangs.
