Revision

May 24th, 2006 | Life

I’m so bad at revision. Like when I’m in the mindset I can do it well, and when I am doing it, I do it will. But getting started when I have something else to think about is just impossible. I have my maths exam tomorrow, along with SY12 it was the one I was most worried about it. I spent from when I got up at 11 until 7 thinking about how I was going to start revising “any minute now.”

I really did try for most of the day before just giving up. I couldn’t do it. I’m working on a message board script at the moment and when a project wraps me up, I simply can’t do anything else, I can’t think or concentrate on anything else. It was a waste of my time even thinking about trying to revise really.

I did some in the end though, Sarann was holding a revision session so we all went to hers and got a bit done even though most of it was distraction given we took a break to eat longer than I had been there and there were like 6 of us there anyway :D.

Tuesday

May 24th, 2006 | Life

Ok, another unoriginal title I know, but it sums the day up. So yeah, got a phone call from my dad this morning at 9:40 telling me he was near Bod and had mail for me so I collected that, got Fonze on a bus and and went back to bed for an hour before getting up at 11 to get into uni with plenty of time before my SE15 (Java programming) exam.

The buses were running weird and the one I was on which was 5 minutes or so late broke down after getting half way round Bodington so we had to walk up and get the number 1. But eventually myself, Graham and Michelle were all on the bus and made it to uni around 12:20 or something.

Our exam was in the Worsley building which none of us knew (well some of us knew where abouts it was but not where the exam actually was as it’s a big building). This wasn’t a problem as I built in about an hour’s redundancy time to find the room except that with the bus problems that had pretty much halved. We eventually found it with about a dozen of us randomly walking around though.

The exam was easy enough, way easier than actually finding the room :p. There is so much of that campus that you would never know about though, there are these massive 7, 8 story buildings that you simply don’t know exist unless you go looking for them.

Afterwards we headed to the Quilted Lama, arriving around 3 and leaving around 10. 7 hours of post-exam drinking :D. It rocks though, £1.35 for bottles of VK and Reef, that’s the cheapest I think I’ve ever paid for alcopops and that includes drinks offers which normally bring them down to £1.50 at best. It is so quite in there too, at 9:30 we were the only ones in there! And it never gets busy, given we have been there a few times recently we make up about 50% of their trade (we always go in a group of like 8-12 or us or something).

The Fruit Cupboard

May 23rd, 2006 | Life

I know, last night was Monday, Mental Monday but I went crazy and defected to The Fruit Cupboard. Started with drinks in The Terrace at 8:30 and we hit Fruit Cupboard just after 10 (we being myself, Michelle, Claire, B, Phil and Fonze).

The music was quite good, I was a little questioning it first but once I began to recognise stuff it was good. Although there was a massively notable lack of The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Seriously, it was an 80’s night, it that grounds for a lawsuit if they don’t play that? Still I was pleased that I actually got my request played, Kim Wilde – Kids in America.

£0.80 was pretty cool and although only certain drinks were £0.80, bottles of VK were only £1.50 which was good so I got through the entire night spending only £4.80 (compared to £11 at Bondi) so it was a cheap night too.

CS12 exam was soooo easy

May 22nd, 2006 | Life

My CS12 exam was just sooooo easy. Maths Chris finished 45 minutes into the exam. He had to wait for 15 minutes because you can’t leave during the first hour of the exam. Bare in mind this was a 2 hour exam. I left after 1:05, maybe 1:10. Although I know the exam isn’t designed to stretch you, you would have thought it would take you at least an hour given you can’t leave for the first hour.

But yeah it went really well. So only maths to worry about now. I also have two programming exams but I will walk them. Which is why I’m going out to Fruit Cupboard tonight :D.

Monday

May 22nd, 2006 | Life

Have my CS12 exam at 1. Going in to uni soon to do a bit more last minute revision. Then hitting Fruit Cupboard tonight for some back to the 80’s partying. Although I probably won’t be staying that late given I have another exam tomorrow. It’s SE15 though so it will be a walk through.

Wendy House review

May 21st, 2006 | Life

Last night was of course Wendy House. Left Grant about 7 with Janine and we went down to Henry Price to meet Dani then headed to Sarann’s. I had to go out to find Oli and at a later point Fonze and John too. And everyone else trickled in so by the time we got into Wendy House we had myself, Michelle, Sarann, Janine, Dani, Oli, Maths Chris, B, Phil, Claire, Sophie, Fonze and John.

It was a good night. What am I saying, of course, it was a good night, it was Wendy House! You can’t beat it for recognising people. Didn’t see Stefan or Laura although there were plenty of people there I did recognise (as ever, that’s why Wendy House rocks).

I also ran into Gary Flockton who I haven’t seen in years and also Andy P who ended up following me home despite me telling him twice he couldn’t crash at mine. Once we got back to Grant it was time for some MarioKart and we ended up getting to sleep around 6 – and didn’t get up until 12:30, I think John is a good influence as Fonze is normally up by like 9.

Before I go off on a whole thing about outfits, I think I need to spread the gossip – Sarann pulled! I was so tempted to take a photo. It was a guy named Andy and I’ve been instructed to tell the world that he is really fit.

Ok, outfits. I picked up 2 black t-shirts from Primark on Friday for a total cost of £5. Awesome price but then I’ve now got Primark stuff. But to be fair, it was to destroy. I spent yesterday afternoon cutting holes in the t-shirt and taping up the edges with duct tape. I think the result turned out pretty well, especially when combined with lines of bondage tape underneith, even if it resulted in breathing problems :p.

The original plan was for Phil to go with his top hair completely in bondage tape, indeed we got through over a role of it before he decided he couldn’t breathe at all. It was looking pretty good until that point though. Ah well, there is always next Wendy House :D.

Wendy House tonight

May 20th, 2006 | Life

About to head out to Wendy House. It’s going to be a wicked night. Me and Janine are going to get the bus down to Sarann’s where also convening are Michelle, Phil, Claire, eventually Fonze and John and somewhere along the way B, Maths Chris and possibly others will be meeting us too. Plus Hooton said he might come with a few friends and Oli and Dani are also rumoured to be coming plus I know a load of people who will probably be there as well. Fabtastic.

A long 14 hour day

May 20th, 2006 | Life

Got up at 12 as Claire was holding a BBQ at 2. Given it was so windy though the plan changed to going to Pizza Hut. Was still feeling crap this morning though so I didn’t get that much eaten. After that we did some shopping in time. I picked up a new pair of trousers (a second pair :p. Well, I have more but these are another idential pair of my new ones which like) and I also got 2 t-shirts for £5. They are Primark but at £2.50 you can’t go wrong.

I plan to destroy one by cutting holes in it actually. Then taking up the edges and the result should be some kind of cool Wendy House outfit. We also talked Philosophy Chris (Phil) into wearing bondage tape so we ended up at one of the sex shops in town buying that :p.

After that, me, Michelle and Phil went back to Lupton to watch some Firefly and we ended up going for drinks in The Terrace. So it’s been a fun day although I haven’t been here all day and I have loads of work to catch up on tomorrow. Plus I’m still not feeling great but a good night’s sleep should fix that.

I feel crap

May 18th, 2006 | Life

Had a 9am exam this morning and it was the dreaded SY. It went ok though. I think I will have solidly pasted as I had little problems with 2 of the 3 questions I answered (except for Booth’s algorithm which sucks as I did it right and got the wrong answer). After a month of Michelle constantly moaning she was going to fail it she now recons she may have got a 1st.

Afterwards we went to the Quilted Lama for lunch (after stopping by the market) then had some drinks randomly around the union all afternoon. I now feel crap though so I left about an hour or so ago and I’m about to go to bed.

First exam

May 17th, 2006 | Life

1 down, 5 to go! Yep, I have 6 exams this semester which sucks but after tomorrow I will be 2 down, 4 to go which is decent enough. And we end on programming which will be nice and easy.

So yeah, today I had a databases exam which was straight forward enough. The SQL section didn’t pose much of a problem, I think I will pick up all the marks there, the other section was a bit sketchy but I did well enough to pass I am sure.

SY is the real challenger tomorrow. 9am as well, how sucky is that?
