Apparently you are not allowed to smoke in maternity wards anymore. Luckily, Elina got me some chocolate cigars instead.

Champagne cooler

My paternity satchel came with a champagne. I am not sure why.

24 hour Costa

Just to clarify then, it is a 24 hour Costa that closes for 1 hour 25 minutes each night.

Homemade burgers

Last month I got the mincing attachment for my stand mixer. It is a bit of a pain to issue. It looks like it is doing nothing for ages but eventually gets there.

We minced up some diced venison and made burgers.

Grammar at the LGI

November 3rd, 2016 | Photos

Back in April, I wrote about the LGI’s dubious spelling of ultrasound. We’ve been there quite a bit recently: volunteering with Anxiety Leeds, having baby scans and visiting my grandma. Each time we go, we seem to notice another sign that is not quite correct.

gynaecology

A bold new spelling of gynaecology.

thank-you-door-sign

Capitalising each word seems to be an interesting stylistic choice, but why is “thank you” hyphenated? It is bizarre.

stairs-to-all-floors

Why would you capitalise “floors”?

this-hospital

Why would you capitalise “hospital”?

lgi-areas

Areas “are” safe and secure?

Red pepper sabayon

November 1st, 2016 | Food

I made a red pepper sabayon a few weeks ago.

pepper-on-bbq

You will have to take my word for it that I was using sweet pointed red peppers. I had already taken them off the BBQ by the time I took this photo. You blister the skin then plunge them into icy water so that you can peel them.

The finished sauce.

Marinades

spicy-chicken-marinade

Spicy chicken marinade. This is a total winner. Make it in the morning and leave tour chicken to sit in it until dinner time. It is slightly spicy, but mild enough for pretty much everyone’s taste.

Red wine marinade. Great for red meat.

New book, Technical Anxiety

October 29th, 2016 | Books, Health & Wellbeing, News

I have a new book coming out. It’s called Technical Anxiety: the complete guide to what is anxiety and what to do about it. If you have read books about anxiety, you might have noticed that a lot of them seem to be written by people who do not really seem to know what it is like to have anxiety or how it makes you feel.

Technical Anxiety cuts through all of that. It covers things like talking to your friends and family (and work), being less self-critical, coping strategies, health anxiety, social anxiety, building a lifestyle that improves anxiety and loads more. To be honest, there is too much in it.

It is available for pre-order on iBooks and Kindle.
