Christmas is almost a few weeks away from being a month away

Thursday, November 12th, 2009 | Life, Thoughts

How exciting.

As if it wasn’t bad enough that while I was running around on Halloween trying to sort my costume out I found Poundsaver already laid out with wall to wall Christmas crap, Radio 1 played their first Christmas song last week.

Still on the brighter side of news as we enjoyed lunch on Sunday we were able to watch them busily work on setting up the German Christmas Market on Millennium Square. You just can’t beat a big German sausage and a litre of beer.

The best way to start a Sunday

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Despite feeling rough on Sunday I endeavoured to make it down to Cuthbert Brodrick for the usual Sunday lunch. This week saw Kate extend her usual diet of chocolate cake to include a bowl of chips too – to which ended up being combined into some radical new version of the chocolate chip.

The Sunday lunch that almost never was

Monday, September 21st, 2009 | Friends, Life

Sunday saw John arrived in Leeds – so it became a race against time to get him moved in, in time to get to Sunday lunch.

It was a race that I lost. But never the less eventually made it down eventually to enjoy our traditional Sunday Wetherspoon’s feast. I say feast, I went for value meal to cut down on spending, but it was still very much enjoyable.

Cultural Sundays

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 | Friends, Life

Following on from our previous Sundays at Leeds Museum and the Royal Armouries we met up for our usual Sunday lunch today.

I saw we met up for it, I had Sunday lunch, Kate and George had drinks because they had no money and prioritised alcohol over food. Kate assures me this is the choice anyone would make if they had her job though 😀 . Though to be fair if you’re drinking Guinness (not that she was) you probably don’t need food after all.

Afterwards, we headed down to the Leeds City Art Museum and took a look round the first gallery which was reasonably interesting, if only from the perspective of the inequalities in the pricing of works of art. Rubbishly, they don’t allow photos in the galleries, however.

Zoltan and the steak

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 | Friends, Humanism, Life

A-Soc social rolled around on Tuesday though despite it being steak night the Cuthbert Brodrick had, somehow, managed to run out of rump and sirloin steak! Luckily we were all ordering mixed grills so it worked out alright in the end.

What followed was a night of long debate and drinking – Rich getting through two bottles of wine by himself! Probably suggested to him by Kate who then proceeded to try and molest him.

Will & Grace

Sunday, August 16th, 2009 | Friends, Photos, Thoughts

As I’ve long maintained, Kate and Rich would make a great couple, they would be just like Will & Grace out of the self-title show. If any further proof were needed just like at what a cute couple they look like when taking faux-wedding photos.

Lil and Sarann’s birthday gig

Monday, December 22nd, 2008 | Events, Friends, Life

Having driven back up to Leeds on Saturday we set about preparing for a house party of our own to celebrate Liz and Sarann’s birthday (to which the latter is today, happy birthday Sarann!). As to be expected it was a night of drunk antics enjoyed by all who attended.

Importantly, the night included chicken. Kate mentioned that her Nando’s voucher, from when she found a brain in her chicken, expired in a few days so we headed over to Nando’s to get some take-out, which it turns out, they do indeed do.

It seems to be becoming somewhat of a tradition to go out and get chicken as our previous house party saw myself and Kieran disappear off to get KFC. I have to say, it’s a tradition I could certainly get used to.

The Dawkins debate

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 | Humanism

Atheist Society last night composed of a meeting regarding whether Richard Dawkins had been a positive or negative influence. There were some excellent speeches and obviously we concluded that he was but it was a very worthwhile debate to have none the less.

The real debate point though is why so few committee members made it to the social. Norm, Nicola, Charlie (which makes up all of the exec) along with Sophie and Liz were all missing, it’s a damn fine job we have dedicated members like Rosie to come and get things going even if she was only there for a few drinks.

Kate spent her usual evening flirting with the DJ and I spent most of the evening bragging about London to those who didn’t come. We also had a few new faces at the meeting which was great, indeed, Johnny joined up there and then. He’s clearly a man who knows where the party’s at.

Chef’s special

So, apparently Nando’s do chicken brain now. It worked out quite well with me having my new camera as we could get good photos.

Our resident neuroscientist Rosie says she can’t say for sure if it was indeed a brain but it sure looks like one and having spent hours researching it she assures me it definitely isn’t a liver or kidney and Oli points out that the reason it doesn’t quite look like you would expect is that it would shrink during the cooking process.

Nando’s remained defiant it wasn’t a brain although the manager admitted it was in the end (after saying, well if you wish to believe it’s a brain to which I of course replied “yes, yes I do”) so who can say. The important thing is Kate got a voucher because that’s really what you want after finding a brain in your chicken 😀 .
