Man date

Saturday, February 5th, 2011 | Friends, Life

Blackhouse, along with River Plate, fights for the title of best steak restaurant in Leeds. So when we heard that they were doing 50% off food throughout January, there was only one thing to do – book a table and cash in on the offer by ordering two steaks each!

So on Monday myself, Norm, George and James returned to Blackhouse for some more amazing steak. The food didn’t disappoint, nor did the wine, and given the relatively cheap cost, it was a great night.

Lil is a bad person

I just wanted to make that clear for the record because I don’t really feel enough has been said about it.

Last week myself, Oli, George and Lil headed out for a night out which ended when Lil got really drunk, decided to attack a group of guys and earned Oli a rather beat up eye for his trouble when he tried to calm things down.

Still, spoils of war and all that, at least I got myself a nice new hat.

Christmas is almost a few weeks away from being a month away

How exciting.

As if it wasn’t bad enough that while I was running around on Halloween trying to sort my costume out I found Poundsaver already laid out with wall to wall Christmas crap, Radio 1 played their first Christmas song last week.

Still on the brighter side of news as we enjoyed lunch on Sunday we were able to watch them busily work on setting up the German Christmas Market on Millennium Square. You just can’t beat a big German sausage and a litre of beer.

Liquid lunch

Sunday, October 25th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Oh how the tables have turned. Today was a somewhat strange Sunday lunch in which George ate and I didn’t. Due to a combination of not feeling too great and wanting to keep my spending under control I didn’t bother actually ordering any, though I did manage to stretch to a beverage of course. Turns out, that’s all you really need. Although I kind of new I didn’t need an entire mixed grill every other day anyway ;).

The best way to start a Sunday

Despite feeling rough on Sunday I endeavoured to make it down to Cuthbert Brodrick for the usual Sunday lunch. This week saw Kate extend her usual diet of chocolate cake to include a bowl of chips too – to which ended up being combined into some radical new version of the chocolate chip.

Getting old

Thursday, September 24th, 2009 | Friends

Myself and George hit The Old Bar last night. It was a somewhat sobering experience, which was useful given I was driving, but never the less unwelcome reminder that we’re getting on a bit.

I didn’t leave my previous engagement until 9:30, which resulted in me getting to the union at 9:45, which I thought was rather late to be hitting the pub. Never the less it was dead in The Old Bar. I mean, there were a fair few people but few enough to allow everyone to get a seat and after all it’s freshers’ week – you would expect it to be rammed.

After a few drinks we headed off a little after 11 – at which point hordes of people began arriving in the bar. Granted I still had two hours of work to do when I got home so it wasn’t like I was going home to bed, but there can be little doubt it’s a sign of the inevitable aging of the class of ’08.

The Sunday lunch that almost never was

Monday, September 21st, 2009 | Friends, Life

Sunday saw John arrived in Leeds – so it became a race against time to get him moved in, in time to get to Sunday lunch.

It was a race that I lost. But never the less eventually made it down eventually to enjoy our traditional Sunday Wetherspoon’s feast. I say feast, I went for value meal to cut down on spending, but it was still very much enjoyable.

I was feeling ill on Monday but with work to be done I headed round to Rich’s flat with George to get editing away on Something Good ’09.

I had already spent three hours the day before on pre-editing and Rich had spent the morning doing some too so luckily we were able to dive straight in and get things done. Even with this big head start it was still 1am by the time we were finished as well as being several bottles of wine later.

The result, however, was well worth it.

Cultural Sundays

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 | Friends, Life

Following on from our previous Sundays at Leeds Museum and the Royal Armouries we met up for our usual Sunday lunch today.

I saw we met up for it, I had Sunday lunch, Kate and George had drinks because they had no money and prioritised alcohol over food. Kate assures me this is the choice anyone would make if they had her job though 😀 . Though to be fair if you’re drinking Guinness (not that she was) you probably don’t need food after all.

Afterwards, we headed down to the Leeds City Art Museum and took a look round the first gallery which was reasonably interesting, if only from the perspective of the inequalities in the pricing of works of art. Rubbishly, they don’t allow photos in the galleries, however.
