Sunday lunch

Sunday, February 15th, 2009 | Events, Friends, Life

I headed out to the Deer Park with Si this lunch time for Sunday lunch, perhaps somewhat in celebration of beating Charlotte by a good two hours on our closing race last night and because there is never a bad day to go for a pub lunch.

The real shock of the day is that having sat down and pretended to look at the menu before going for the same thing I always have, I actually choose something different this time! Sure I went for a burger rather than a steak but still, I think it’s big leap to actually alter my usual selection.

I really enjoyed today to be honest, it was nice that it was just the two of us, it’s an excellent chance to be cynical without someone dragging the mood up. Sunday lunch is about relaxed chat, a nice meal and then heading home for a nap, none of this hyper talkative nonsense. Just a relaxing lunch so I can drift off and pretend for an hour or two that I don’t have a pile of work to get through.

Starting the day right

Did someone say recovery steak? My my yes.

Sunday saw the day start with a trip to the Deer Park for lunch with Si. Norm and Kate also joined us as well as Liz who I would describe as being hyper and never stopping talking, but she wasn’t hyper, that’s just Liz at baserate.

This was followed by an evening trip to Louisiana Bar & Grill at which my earlier mixed grill prevented me from making the obvious choice. They also had a 20oz steak which was very tempted but being resigned to trying something new and exciting I went for the swordfish steak. It was fairly disappointing to be honest but never the less an experience.

The best part of the restaurant was the table cloths you could draw on though. Clearly there was only one thing on our minds 😉 .

Ah the days of being a student. 2 for 1 meals at the pub for lunch every day.

The Deer Park running such an offer during January we decided to head down yesterday to grab some dinner as you can’t beat Deer Park food for as cheap as it used to be at the student pubs. Good times.

Sunday lunch

Monday, January 26th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Having enjoyed the usual Saturday night at work I hauled myself out of bed at noon on Sunday for a bit of Sunday lunch at the Deer Park with Si. Not that I actually had any kind of traditional Sunday lunch but I did heartily enjoy the steak.

Liz was in a rather talkative mood, even for Liz, but never the less we managed to get a few words in edgeways, enough to briefly summarise our weeks anyway.

Despite Si having headed off to the cinema with Ant and Tilly, it being the last Friday before Perspective kicks off, a night at the Deer Park was much in need. And so myself, Kate, Michelle and Greg headed down for some good old fashioned fun. The Ember Skewered Chicken comes highly recommended.

End of a long week

Saturday, January 10th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Many of us having gone back to work this week, it got to Friday and there was nothing else to do but hit the pub. Plus with it being Kieran’s birthday it was a good reason to celebrate, even if Kieran was a few hundred miles away in Swindon.

It was a rather good turn out in the end with myself, Si, Sarann, Michelle, Greg, Nicola and Kate turning up. Not that I got chance to speak to anyone other than Si or Sarann but I’m sure I will get chance to at some point in the next week.

One night at the pub

The New Year’s Eve party having got a little bigger than the Facebook guest list would suggest, I suggested to Si and Kieran that we go for a bit more of a relaxed drink on Friday at our favourite local watering hole, the Deer Park.

It almost snowballed out of control again, having invited my housemates and then Kate having text me to see what was going on, though in the end it was just five of us which is a perfectly managable number. I also had somewhat of a challenge with the organisation given I was still at a wedding when it started and so was organisating from the other side of town.

Still it turned into quite a pleasant night with us staying till well after time had been called.

Si’s birthday

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 | Friends, Life

It may have been a little late but Si’s official birthday party finally took place on Monday night.

We met up in The Deer Park for a steak dinner which was rather good, especially once we got on to dessert though I fear it may be my last steak for a while as I really need to cut down on my spending (the drugs and the hookers are really starting to add up).

Si also turned up in the end which was quite a nice addition. Good times.

Day off

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 | Life, Thoughts

I didn’t do any work on Sunday. Well near enough anyway.

And I didn’t do that much work on Monday either.

It was really weird. I spent most of Money sitting around feeling guilty that I was only doing a bit of work. But I recon if I could get rid of that feeling I could really enjoy days off once again.

Myself, Norm and Michelle went for lunch at the Deer Park which was good. Not just because you can never, ever go wrong with a mixed grill but also because it was a re-discovery of the ability to just go for a pub lunch in the middle of the day, something we used to do like every day but never really do anymore. Or, if you will, back in the day.

Life isn’t ever going to slow down it is? I hoped it would when I graduated, that it wouldn’t be quite as hectic. I didn’t want it to slow down too much, I would have settled for just a bit. But I’m not sure I’m actually going to get that.

Having had our house warming on Friday at which I managed to work my way through a bottle of spirits without being too worse for wear on Saturday we headed down to the Deer Park for some recovery steak. Having eaten that I headed off straight to work for an interesting night of watching smartly dressed Opera in the Park goers look very out of place and made it home to bed for around 3am.

Once again dragging my ass out of bed a little earlier than I would have really liked to we headed back to the Deer Park for Sunday lunch. Having got back from that I then spent the afternoon battling through a week’s worth of freelancing work I needed to catch up on before heading to the pub quiz.
