It’s Valentine’s Day

February 14th, 2006 | Life

I suppose I should make some kind of post. It’s amazing how many people hate this day. Like everyone on my course it getting really depressed about it. Probably because we’re all nerds and so none of us are in relationships leading to a terrible feeling of being horribly alone.

Still at least it provides an excuse to get really smashed tonight, we’re doing the whole Grant House event thing starting with free alcohol on the basement (well by that I mean we’ve already all thrown in £3 so we can drink as much as we want tonight) then we’re heading off to The Courtyard though some people have said they aren’t going and I’m tempted to join them as I’m not a huge fan.

Spent last night at the Bod Bar. I felt the need to mention that. I feel I’m not engaging in as active a social calendar as previously. This Saturday should be pretty mental though, Wendy House at the union which is going to be awesome. Hopefully I will get an Indie Rox and Fruity in between then too.

Playing albums to death

February 13th, 2006 | Life

I need to enjoy Lostprophets – Start Something and Nickelback – All The Right Reasons as much as I can now as I’m playing them to death very quickly.

I spent some quality time in CS12 developing a plan to develop some of the communities I run. I think it was a valid month as it was that or fall alseep. I considered it the lesser of too evils. I’ve nearly finished my CS coursework so once I’ve done that I just have SY12, DB11, SE15 and SE12 to do! Although SE12 is an no-going project.

I also need to do some editing for Nightmare 90210 of which I shot two episodes last Saturday.

Oh and round people up for this Saturday – the Wendy House hits the union and I want to get as many people as possible there.

The usual Monday blog

February 13th, 2006 | Life

Not feeling great today so I didn’t get the bus until 9:30 meaning I went straight to my tutorial rather than stopping by Eniac to blog. So it’s not really the usual Monday morning blog after all. But that’s not really the point.

Where is everyone? My social circle is just too unreliable. Out of five of us, I am the only one who turned up to the lecture. Ok, Jimmy doesn’t do DB11 so he is off the huck but that’s still three people not bothering to turn up. At least there were people in my tutorial group today, when I went last week it was just me!

Need to get some coursework done, I have two deadlines this week, I don’t know when my other deadlines are. But they are beyond this week so I don’t need to worry about those just yet.

Scrubs pilot

February 13th, 2006 | Life

got back from the Film Making Society social at about 11:30. There were only like three films from the film making society and my “Random Questions to Random Questions” was inaudiable so nobody had any idea what was going on. But oh well.

I’ve been working a lot on my independent movie makers community and it is shaping up to look really good. I can’t wait to get it finished and launched though there is a long way to go yet.

Now I’m waiting the pilot episode of Scrubs. Classic.

Particle Gallery released

February 12th, 2006 | Life

After sitting around almost complete for ages, I’ve finally released the first beta version of Particle Gallery. It will make quite an addition to the Particle Soft family I hope as it has some very powerful features and blows away the scripts that we have released before.

Not that the scripts before aren’t that good – they are. I use them all on one site or another but an image gallery really gave us something to get our teeth stuck into and produce some mega stuff. Things like mass-moderation, a cache system, admin and moderator panels, I’m really happy with what we managed to achieve with the script.

Now it’s just a case of weeding out the bugs before a stable release.

Forums, events and etc

February 12th, 2006 | Life

I think I’ve been neglecting forums a bit recently so I’ve decided to put a bit more time into them. I launched Hilary Duff Boards a few weeks ago and I’ve been making some posts on Audio Senate to try and kick-start the discussions on there. I might sent an annoucement around about it.

Ok, on to events. Film making society social tonight which should be fun. And we have to drink a lot as we have a minimum bar tab to run up :p. It’s a “you can have the venue for free but you have to spend this much on drinks” type deal I think.

As for etc, I can’t believe it’s already 11:30 (or there abouts) on Sunday. The weekend was going to be my time to get everything organised but it seems to have gone a little too fast. I still need to look at my coursework, see what needs doing.

All the Right Reasons

February 11th, 2006 | Life

Like, wow. I finally got round to getting Nickelback’s new album and it rocks! I haven’t really got the songs stuck in my head yet but I am sure I will, especially after I have had it blasting out of my MP3 player on the way to and from uni for a week.

Got some filming done today and spent a large chunk of the afternoon broadening my musical horizons with songs from The Cure, The Smiths, Led Zepplin and a few other artists that I like but haven’t really got fully into.

I’ve had Nickelback blasting out for the past hour, which should have nicely annoying people :p. I actually don’t feel guity, it drowns out all the clubbing music that surrounds me and constantly annoys me so I think it was a perfectly valid route to take.

Eniac on a Saturday

February 11th, 2006 | Life

Ok, so last time I came in here and blogged about nobody else coming in out of hours, someone did. In fact, I think someon else came in as I was leaving too. But that’s not the point. There is nobody here now. Partly because nobody comes into uni on a Saturday and that it’s 11:49 so everyone will still be asleep but that’s not the point.

I had to come down to drop off some coursework and filming starts for Nightmare 90210 in like 10 minutes.

Emo Today re-worked

February 11th, 2006 | Life

I’ve just taken the new beta site of Emo Today. It may not look any different but it’s a massive change – I’ve basically re-written the site this evening.

In terms of asphetics and what you can actually see changed, there is now a margin at the bottom of the page, the words lyrics has been removed from end of each line on the track listings for an album, it will no longer display the track listings box if there are no lyrics and the lyrics page has a slightly different title. Other than that I don’t think anything has changed.

Behind the scenes though – first of all, the old MySQL stuff has gone, replaced by my database class. All the main template code has been moved into header and footer includes. The news database connection now only kicks in on the news page. There is more SQL validation to stop attacks. Loads of stuff has changed.

It’s also worth loading that there is a fresh load of new content including biographies and album reviews to check out. Some new genres to categorise the stuff into as well.

Re-using photos

February 10th, 2006 | Life

I’m quite getting into WordPress 2 now. I’ve upgraded the Blog Steak network and it’s quite good that on the gossip sites and such, when I post about a celeb I can just browse through the previously uploaded photos and select a few I’ve used before for that celebrity.
