April Wendy House

April 23rd, 2006 | Life

Just got back from the Wendy House. Got the bus down with Fonze and John just before 9 and made it to the union a little before 9:30. The Terrace was closed so we had a game of pool when went to the Old Bar for a few drinks before heading into Wendy House at 11. Which is an hour before Sarann made it in :p.

There were actually quite a lot of people there. Sarann brought Liz, Emma (a friend of Liz’s) and Claire plus a load of other random people. I recognised a load of people too. Which I’m going to list now :D…

  1. Matt (Spikey haired Matt, Old Bar)
  2. Matt (Jersey Matt, Old Bar)
  3. Jay (Old Bar)
  4. Ash (Stylus)
  5. Tony (Stylus)
  6. Andrew (Rock Soc Andrew, Stylus)
  7. Dominic (Stylus)

I might have missed some people. Plus Sophie was there with relatives so there was quite a group of us. We ended up planning a group trip to Bondi (well it’s a pretty informal plan involving myself, Fonze, John, Claire and Sophie) but never the less, something is in the works. A week on Monday as Fonze needs a week of Bondi due to financial considerations and I don’t know what is happening on Monday anyway as it’s the first party night with my house.

So yeah, back to Wendy House. We spent some time in Mutate (in Mine) because John’s into that then around 11:50 we moved back to Stylus to find Sarann (after all, she must be there by now right :D). We ended up spending pretty much the entire night in Stylus, not that I am complaining, it’s where we usually hang out although I did take a quick wander back to Mine to see if I could see the girl I was half dancing with (she was sort of half in our circle and we had eye contact and smiling, I figured I might as well make a move if she was still there).

The problem with Wendy House, if there is on, is that there are very few single girls at these events. Almost all of them are paired up. Which is why Bondi is quickly coming up to question Wendy House’s status as the best night out in Leeds for me.

Still, overall a great night though. It ended too quick but we ended up spending like 15-20 minutes outside saying goodbye to everyone, especially as Sophie knows everyone :p. We then went to Luckys and got some food then got a taxi home. Ok, so it’s nearly 4 am now and I need to be up at 10 at the latest to update my websites and get my stuff packed. Should be a fun day :D.

Emo Today overhaul complete

April 21st, 2006 | Life

I now consider the overhaul of Emo Today complete. Well technically the overhaul was complete yesterday although I made some more tweaks to get the layout and such looking better now we’ve coverted to XHTML 1.0 and added a sitemap too.

The real work today though, which is why I now consider the work complete (this is of course the building work – maintaining and creating new content is the work from now on which is a continual thing) is that we have added two new sections to the site. The first is a blog, appropriately titled Emo Blog which will feature quick reviews, news and other such so the site can easily be updated regularly.

Secondly the guide has also been added so that you can find out more information on whatever topic related to the emo genre you are looking for (providing you are only looking for one of three topics at the moment but it will grow :p).

Emo Today gets a revamp

April 21st, 2006 | Life

Emo Today is getting an overhaul. It’s mostly client-side, the HTML has been tidied up and aligned properly, the big tabs tables have been replaceced by a nice small list with a load of CSS coding on it to make it look basically the same and a few other changes that while they are client-side they won’t actually get noticed as they are mostly in the code.

I’m also working on adding a blog to Emo Today which will be known as Emo Blog. Anyway yeah, have a browse round the new Emo Today website. See if you can notice the changes. I think the only visible one is that there is no border between the tabs and the strip under the tabs. Oh and there might be a bit bigger gap between inline images and text too.

Worfolk Pictures on MySpace

April 20th, 2006 | Life

Yet another reason I need some kind of corporate blog, for posts like this. Ah well, this way it gives it a more personal touch :p.

Worfolk Pictures is now on MySpace! Sort of. MySpace is a terrible site and never works so although we have pictures and movies uploaded, they don’t actually load. Still I’m hoping that is just a time delay while they are processed or something. Have a gander.

I got stung

A wasp stung me! I knew there was a reason I hated nature. Right on the end of my finger too, how am I supposed to type properly now? This isn’t over mother nature!

Job interview

April 19th, 2006 | Life

I had a job interview at William Hill today. I think it went pretty well, the guy that did it seemed quite a cheery guy and we had a laugh and I had no problems with the maths test thing. The structured interview was a little weird, maybe I went through it too fast but I gave an answer to every question without needing to come back to any at the end so I think I must have given a decent answer to each one.

I don’t know if I’ve actually got the job yet but that is because they don’t. As I don’t start until June he’s keeping me on file until nearer the date so that they can see what vacanies they have then.

The evidence that wasn’t there

April 19th, 2006 | Life

The debate as to whether Jesus actually existed is not a particuarly headed one because most secularists would either say Jesus probably did exist or say there isn’t much evidence pointing either way, at least, few would refute the claim, or at least not push the point as much as they would push other points about religion, that he did indeed exist.

Personally I hadn’t really given it much thought. My view was that someone named Jesus probably did exist, saying that in no way indicates that the claims of him being the son of God should be given any more creedence because there will have been lots of people called Jesus around at that time.

I almost took it as a given that there was evidence outside of the Bible to support his existence which would be hard to dispute. After all, most Christians I had debated with would push that idea. However I recently Googled Jesus outside the Bible and I was quite interested to find that none of the first page of results could actually provide any source that could really offer any reliable account.

The earliest source outside the Bible to mention Jesus, a man named Josephus, wasn’t even born until 4 years after Jesus had been crucified. He never bet Jesus, he isn’t an eyewitness to anything that happened and only talks about a man named Jesus in a historical sense.

Indeed, there appears to be no first hand accounts of Jesus, no writings by eye witnesses to any of his deeds nor Roman records of his existence. While I don’t think this disproves the existence of Jesus, I think it certainly does significant damage to the claims that he was able to perform miracles, raise from the dead or indeed do anything that someone who is not the son of God could not.
