There are no 24 hour pubs in Leeds

Monday, March 6th, 2006 | Life

Despite us now having 24 hour drinking laws for the last 4 months there are no pubs open in Leeds after 1 am! That’s crap, we wanted somewhere to go after Bondi closes tonight but none of them open. JD Wetherspoon withdrew their application within a few weeks of submitting it.

I am not opposed to 24-hour drinking but in the right places.

Also that above is a quote from Keith Wakefield who is leader of the council’s Labour group. So what is a right place then? Save an airport what could possibly be a more appropriate for a 24 hour pub than a station?

“Expired a long ago” – that’s not even close to grammatically correct. In fact it appears to be entirely missing the word time.

But that’s just a dig, that’s not the point (a fair dig anyway as they are a business). The point is I raised this issue weeks ago and they have taken now to sort it (well, they didn’t really sort it at all). If it had been dealt with back then I probably wouldn’t be in this situation.

FanSites.ws interest

Sunday, March 5th, 2006 | Life

Had some decent interest in the free hosting over at FanSites.ws recently. There isn’t much that have actually come through and online but it says a while to get everything sorted so I am hoping that pretty soon there will be quite a few sites online.

If you’re thinking of building a fan site it’s a good option. It’s totally free and while you are required to carry an ad, it’s up to you where you put it and what size ad it is so it’s not like it’s a free host that forces it’s massive ads along the top of every page.

Sleep

Sunday, March 5th, 2006 | Life

I’ve been getting some really good sleep this weekend. I mean, I normally lie in until somewhere around this time but I’m normally just lounging around in bed, not sleeping. Granted I didn’t go to bed until 4:50 Friday night but I slept through until 12:30 whereas I’m normally up over an hour before that for brunch. And today I slept until about half an hour ago even though I went to bed at about 12:30.

I’m thinking of going in to uni today to get some work done as I have several rather pressing courseworks that I would like to make a start on before the deadline gets close and I realise I have loads to do. Or I might just lie around all day doing nothing. That’s a good option too.

Gardening

Saturday, March 4th, 2006 | Life

It started off a normal enough night, I went to The Bricklayers Arms with Sarann for the Rock Soc social which was ok though we only stayed for an hour or so as Sarann’s contact lense was turning her eye into a waterfall. We got a pizza on the way back then crashed at hers for a while.

Got home sometime before 1 expecting to get some sleep but Mariokart was being played so I had to join in that and then we all went to Tom’s room and chilled out. We also watched Spy Kids 3D which was wierd but cool.

Internet abuse

Friday, March 3rd, 2006 | Life

Let’s face it, the internet is rife with abuse from the spam in your inbox to the DDOS attacks that hit site after site. Owning quite a lot of sites I run into abuse far more often then I would like to.

Spam is a major problem, I pay for spam filtering on my inbox, I use Akismit on all my blogs (I have 18 comments caught by the system sitting on this blog right now) and I use Bad Behaviour on all my wikis as all are massive spam targets. Plus most of the forums I run get hit my spam posts regularly too.

Forum abuse has been common in the past too. I’ve had a few forums that have just been mauled by assholes including United Nerds, Fallen Nation, probably Audio Senate at one point and several times Buffy Talk has been hit.

I have mixed feelings about it. At the end of the day, there is nothing you can really do. Sure you can block them from the site but they can get a new user account, a new email address or a new IP address, it won’t really stop them. It does really annoy me but I’m as of the recent abuse on BT I’m going for a different attitude. It’s just part of the job of running a website and you just have to get on with it.

There really is no topic

Got more SY12 coursework today taking me back up to 3 pieces currently due (out of 5 modules) though I have 75% of CS12 done. One of the problems on the coursework was actually fun to do! Who could have seen that coming.

I’m trying to sort my domains out at the moment. I got a response from RegisterFly finally explaining what was going on with angeldrive.com…

Hello,

Renew/Transfer request for your domain angeldrive.com is in under process.

We are pleased to inform you that registerfly is now an ICANN accredited registrar and it is registering domains on its own credentials.
If you will try to renew your existing domains registered with enom ( formerly registerfly.com ) we will raise a transfer request for this domain to transfer it to registerfly credentials.
The domain will be transferred to registerfly and one year will be extended to current expiration date automatically.

And we can see that your both hotminibikinis.com and tradeconfederacy.com are found to be expired. Please go to http://www.registerfly.com/renew and renew both domains. We have pushed both domains in your Registerfly account.

Thank You.

I’ve started processing some more transfers to Name Cheap, I need to stay on top of my domains more. I really need to work on consolidating them to more registrars.

My inbox is mental at the moment, I’m trying to cut it down but I have loads of things happening at once. I need to finish off my CS12 coursework tonight too and I have some other stuff to do. It’s going to be a fun night :p.

Film Making Soc stuff and a general Wednesday update

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006 | Life

So I was the only person to make it in to SY12 this morning. Well of my immediate social group. Michelle, Sarann and Graham were up until like 2:30 drinking last night. Still, they missed Tunnel Club which as I mentioned in my previous post was pretty awesome.

I got my DB11 finished off and got the SE15 exercise done. Also myself and Michelle got out SE12 project ticked off as making progress so now I’m down to just CS and Maths coursework (although SE12 is ongoing). Michelle started her DB11 coursework at 3:00 and came out of DEC-10 having completed it at 7:30. Which is what time I got out of film making society.

Speaking of which, we have our AGM coming up soon, March 15th to be exact. I think we have pretty much sorted which of the regular members are applying for the comittee next year. Steph is going for president, Benjamin is going for tresurer, I’m planning on going for secutary and Stephan is standing for a comittee seat, I’m not sure about Poppy but I’m pretty sure she is standing. Still that’s only 5 people and there are 6 comittee seats :p.

Coursework and such

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006 | Life

I finally got my DB11 done which was way more difficult than it should have been. Moved straight on to SE15, after all, I am in an SE15 lab session although as Ash commented, almost everybody in the lab is also doing their DB11 coursework :p.

I need to get some more SE12 done too, I might give Michelle a ring. Or go home and sleep. I think both are very good options.

Fun at The Tunnel Club

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006 | Life

Today was an interesting day. Didn’t have to be in until 1 so I got a my work done this morning and finally handed my maths coursework in too! Had lectures until 4 at which point we went to DEC-10 to do our SE12 interim report which is due in at 9 am today (as in Wednesday, we got it in on time).

Have to show what we have done in the lab sessions on Thursday so I think tomorrow, in between finishing off my DB11 coursework that has to be in by Thursday, myself and Michelle will be getting some more Python coded.

Anyway so yeah, after that I got back to Bod to dump my stuff, get dinner and headed out with Chris from my course to go to Sarann’s for pancakes (yesterday was pancake day after all). Good pancakes too, Liz cooked them and Michelle ate like half a dozen as she has no food left or money to buy more :p. Seriously, she has £2 left, that’s it. But her parents are wiring her more money.

Then myself and Chris headed down to the union and met Oli for Tunnel Club which despite sounding really good I hadn’t actually been to you. The Ivories were playing which obviously none of us had heard of but never the less they rocked. They were an indie chick band but their sound is punk which is awesome. I may have to make Tunnel Club more of a regular thing.

They don’t actually have an album out yet but it’s one to watch out for if you’re into the whole retro angst punk as they were described.
