First maths tutorial of the semester

Thursday, January 26th, 2006 | Life

This should actually be my second post this morning but I just got a timeout or server not responding or something when I tried to post this morning. I don’t know if my connection was down or what. Still when I do post it later today (presuming I can) I will probably edit the timecode to set it back to my original posting time anyway.

Had my first maths tutorial today with a new tutor named Katy. It’s wierd because she can’t add up. She knows a lot more about maths than any of us but she can’t add up :p. Seriously, she gets us to check her adding to make sure it’s right and got 59 from 56+4. They actually seem quite fun tutorials compared to last semester. Although the whole 9am thing isn’t great.

I have a big to do list with random items sitting in my bag. I also have a load more work to get done on my sites tonight and some uni work to do. I also will probably be trashing some of my logs on my VPS as logs for media.audiosenate.net, forums.haumarush.com and maybe some others just die when processing and that puts the whole server behind.

I need to kill them manually then the server catches up again and the process repeats. I think once I get that sorted I might go back to 24 hour stats updating rather than 48 hours. I also might resume major crawling on CassieNet News too.

I’m a little disappointed with the response I’ve got for some new gossip blog partners. I made several posts on different forums about looking for new people to get involved with a gossip blog network but so far nobody has gone as far as to get involved.

World Domination Soc took another blow yesterday as John (the societies guy) really doesn’t think it will get through the union committee. But I’m not giving up, I’m going to re-word it to make it slightly more friendly then e-mail some political and campaigning societies, basically anyone with a strong opinion, and see what they think, just to gauge feedback.

Morning all

Wow, I actually managed to get up to get a shower. I find myself with a little too much time now though as my bag is pretty much packed lol. Like already, I didn’t really need to do anything this morning. I was hoping it would be light by now but no such luck.

I’m not that tired which is wierd as I didn’t sleep much. I was going to go to bed for 11 but I didn’t get there until mid-night and didn’t get to sleep properly (though I think I got some) until 3:30.

I stole Tom’s idea of living my computer on playing music so I had something to listen to when I got up (normally I just stick my personal stero on to help me sleep). I have a whole soft acoustic playlist going on and just altered the balance to my 5.1 speakers next to my bed.

Tired! I can’t do with these long days. And tomorrow I have a 9 am start. What’s that about? I’ll have to get up at 7:30 and as student clocks run 2 hours behind normal people’s clocks (your 7am-11pm day is our 9am-2am day) that’s the equivelant of one of you non-students getting up at 5:30. That’s insane!

Anyway so yeah, in at 10 today. Got back at about 3 but then I had a film making society meeting to go to at 6 so I was only at Bod for like 2 hours. Left the meeting early at around 6:15 and didn’t get a bus for like 15 minutes so I made it to dinner at 6:55. They stop serving at 7 which is too close. The bus was stuck behind two cyclists on Otley Road and I was like “oh come on, this just isn’t fair.”

Still have all my sites to update and emails to check, etc. Should be a fun night.

Oh BTW the post title is named after some sort of grumbling sound.

The free iPods thing

Well, I’ve got credit for signing up to an offer. As long as I cancel it within the next few weeks I don’t pay anything so I’m pretty sorted there I think. Now I just need all you guys to sign up :p. The friend I mentioned before actually has his PSP now so I have some faith in the system. As I said before it’s still a pyramid scheme when it comes down to it but it’s one that actually works.

This is so creepy

Ok, so I just got nto uni like 25 minutes early and headed down to the main School of Computing lab, DEC-10. I walked in and it’s just empty. Not metaphorically empty but like de-void of all human life. There is nobody here! It’s well freaky, there is always someone in DEC-10.

SitePoint Forums hit 100,000 members

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006 | Life

That’s pretty impressive. Sure there are plenty of places that have bigger memberships but we are talking about the seriously big sites here – GamSpot, Gaia Online, etc. The only other webmaster related site that I can think of that holds that kind of membership base is Web Hosting Talk.

Of course Big-Boards.com had to come along and name loads (phpBB.com, DevShed, vBulletin.com to name a few) but it’s besides the point. I remember when the SitePoint Forums where only 30,000 members strong. I’m sure many members remember way before that.

New site on it’s way

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006 | Life

A few weeks ago I aquired a new online property in a quite sale and since then the site is gradually being turned round into something I can launch. It’s progressing quite well so far although there are a few bumps I need to get over before it will be ready. Watch this space though. And feel free to try and guess what it is :p.

Life is crazy

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006 | Life

I woke up this morning and I couldn’t believe how life had got so crazy after one day of the second semester. My to do list…

  • Sort out Tramey’s audio clip
  • Record some new VNUs
  • Update xmeltrut.com and the blogs
  • Sort out World Domination Soc
  • Do some uni work

I’m sure I have a load more stuff to do that I have forgotten too.

Prison Break

Monday, January 23rd, 2006 | Life

Just watching the Prison Break show on Channel 5. Here’s what Radio Times said about it…

Prison Break looks and sounds terrific – snappily edited with lots of groovy music – with what seems to be an intriguing story at its core.

They do know it’s on Channel 5 right? Still….

Look a little closer, however, and you’ll come to realise that it’s empty nonsense.

Yep. And it is. But I’m almost hucked.
