Skepticism arrives in Leeds

Sunday, December 21st, 2008 | Events, News

After the a month of development and planning, Leeds Skeptics in the Pub is finally officially going ahead in January. The idea is that once a month people can get together and discuss a chosen issue over a few pints, though no doubt any topic selected will simply be a starting point that will be long lost after the first few rounds!

The Dawkster is coming!

Monday, December 1st, 2008 | Humanism, News

So, straw poll time.

In the last, year let’s say, longer if you wish, I’m just wondering how many national organisations everyone else has co-founded that have Richard Dawkins coming to speak at their press launch?

Oh, just the AHS then?

😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Obama baby

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 | Events, News, Religion & Politics

Well, it’s over. America has a black president. A very white black president but a black president none the less. And rightfully so too, Obama is the man for the job.

We held somewhat of an election party to watch the results come in last night. With the projector hucked up to project accross our lounge wall and the sound system hucked into it too it was more than big enough to enjoy a life size picture of Christopher Hitchens when he appeared on the BBC’s panel.

Having work I went to grab some sleep not long before 4am and everyone else had dispersed by the time I got up but never the less it was a fun night. And I’m now loaded up with several litres of energy drinks at work so I should be able to make it through the day 😀 .

Pro Life Through Pro Choice

Sunday, October 12th, 2008 | News, Religion & Politics

Following the initial meeting last Tuesday, the Pro Life Through Pro Choice campaign finally launched today. The campaign is to promote the idea that pro choice does not mean anti life (whereas those who traditionally describe themselves as pro life generally are anti choice) and that the abortion issue is a serious one which needs to be approached with an open mind.

One hundred videos

Monday, September 15th, 2008 | News

Yesterday I uploaded my 100th video to YouTube.

This excludes the material uploaded as part of Worfolk Pictures so I don’t think that is too bad going. It is a right random collection though, there are series of videos from anything from tech to celebs all with atheist rants mixed in with them.

Don’t forget kids…

New car

Thursday, June 5th, 2008 | Life, News

Having ordered my car on Friday and picking it up on Monday I really should get round to posting some pictures of it. It’s a 1.6 Astra, 2001, 50,000 miles so not the fastest thing in the world but never the less reasonably fancy. The air con actually works in it which is always a nice suprise with used cars.

ChrisWorfolk.com v3

Monday, August 20th, 2007 | News

The beta version of ChrisWorfolk.com v3 is now available for your viewing pleasure. It’s a lot clearer than the current site and easier to read and it uses a nicer URLs. There are a few issues with it at the moment, mainly that it has only been tested in Firefox so far and suffers from some issues when displaying in Internet Explorer.

Star Trek XI

Saturday, July 28th, 2007 | Distractions, News

There has been very little news on the next Trek film but Comic Con saw some big news – the film will not only feature Spock but will also include Leonard Nimoy! Zachary Quinto will take on the main role while Nimoy will also take on the role for the more aged Spock (whether that is flashbacks, disturbance in the timeline or what remains to be seen). It will also feature Kirk apparently (but then, who really cares ;)).

It’s subject is now a little more cloudy now though, the early rumours of it revolving around Star Fleet Academy seem to have disappeared of the net and Wikipedia‘s page on it talks about how the idea of a film between Enterprise and TOS about the Earth-Romulan War have also been quashed. So I guess we’ll just have to wait for a little more detail to be leaked.

EMI and Apple are going DRM free

Monday, April 2nd, 2007 | News, Tech

EMI and Apple have just announced a new edition to their offerings – EMI’s entire catalog will now be offered DRM free. For $.129 a track (opposed to the classic $0.99 which is still available) you get your tracks at 256kbps rather than 128kbps and DRM free though they will still be in AAC format.

This is one step closer to making buying music online a good alternative to buying the actual CD, indeed it’s by far the biggest one. You will now be able to move music between devices which was the major problem and it also solves the licences problem (losing them) as you can back up all your music without any problems.
