GoDaddy dropping the ball

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006 | Life

I’ve noticed GoDaddy have been dropping the ball a bit lately. Recently they began talking (or at least took one) torrent site domains down [ Link ]. There was a big backlash about that is the domain registrar is nothing to do with the website content and it’s not up to GoDaddy to police the internet.

Then a few days ago they suspended NecTarTech.com [ Link ] because one of their servers in their datacenters was hacked. Think about this – because someone hacked a server, they took the domain of the host offline. So because of that, thousands of domains were down. And GoDaddy’s 24/7 support said they couldn’t fix it for days.

This isn’t good as I was moving from RegisterFly to GoDaddy assuming I would be with a better company.

Still at least there were some amusing responses…

GoDaddy Sucks, plain and simple, they can have all the soft-core porn Super Bowl commercials they want, but they still suck.

I’m a little left wondering what to do now though. eNom maybe? They seem to have a good rep among the domain and webmaster community.

Link. Firefox look-a-like competition anyone? :p

Ok, it’s not that close but it’s close.

Time offset

Monday, January 16th, 2006 | Life

My blog was offset by +1 hour which I thought was server-wide but it turns out it was set like that in WordPress. I guess it was for DST, I’ve changed it now.

Whois correction finished

Monday, January 16th, 2006 | Life

I went through the rest of the domains I have on RegisterFly and updated the whois details. They should be all sorted once the changes are propogated now.

Exams and uni stuff

Monday, January 16th, 2006 | Life

Got back from my first exam recently, it was pretty easy. But everyone found it easy so whether we’re all just really good or whether it’s just really hard to get marks and we’re all going to fail I don’t know yet. Ah well, 1 down, 3 to go.

I am trying to sort everything out at the moment, at least in real terms. In virtual terms I think everything may get put on hiatus until I finish this week, I really can’t deal with it all at once.

While routing through my stuff I did come across my list of places to eat at in the uni. It was a list I made as a checklist so myself and Graham could try and eat everywhere that sold food but I wasn’t really feeling the support for the project so it never got done.

  • Terrance / MJ’s
  • Old Bar
  • Frefectory
  • Mine
  • Mezz Bar
  • Maths Cafe
  • Physics Cafe
  • Roger Stevens basement
  • Baines Wing
  • Essentials / Game On
  • Cafe 7 (medical school)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • The Business School coffee bar

I know I’m missing some stuff from the list but meh.

Tonight’s events

Sunday, January 15th, 2006 | Life

I just got back and my hall is just dead. The common room was empty and I’ve hardly seen anyone. I guess they could be at Bod Bar but I doubt it with it being Sunday night.

I spent tonight at the Sheepish Social which is like a goth night. I was a little disappointed as it was too goth for me, I was hoping with it being Sunday and people having work in the morning it would be more student than goth but it wasn’t.

Had a good long chat with Michelle though, she has had some really wacky adventures of which a large percentage involve fire.

The O.C. series 3 baby

Sunday, January 15th, 2006 | Life

Oh yeah! The O.C. is back for series 3 baby. I’ve just watched the first episode on Channel 4 though if you were foolish enough to miss it, it will be shown again tonight at 6 on E4. It was a pretty solid episode, I’m fired up and screaming again. And with the sixth series of DC coming out soon, teen drama is back to dominating myself I think.

Bar Phono closed down

Saturday, January 14th, 2006 | Life

When did this happen? That’s not cool. I was going to suggest we headed there and went to the website to check out what they had on and was greated a message of “oh, yeah we closed.” I managed to track down an annoucement on Sheepish.net…

Bar Phono will formally cease trading on the 30th December 2005, which means that tomorrow night (Thursday 22nd December 2005) will be the last night the club will be open.

The reason the club is closing is simple: the eight year lease on the premises expires on the 30th and the Merrion Centre have chosen not to renew it, as they no longer wish the unit to be used as licenced premises (in other words, what we know as the Phono will not be reopening as another club, bar, restaurant etc etc in the future). This was formally communicated to the leaseholder today.

I can’t stop with the blogs

Saturday, January 14th, 2006 | Life

I think I’m developing a blog problem. I have managed to curb my domain problem to some degree but the blogs thing is really getting out of hand. I’m launching a new one every few days. I don’t even know what they are about anymore!

The latest one I’ve added to my list is If That Is Your Real Name, I mean, what the hell is it about?

What I really need is to get a blogroll going on some of my blogs with other people I know that have similar blogs.

My Documents

Saturday, January 14th, 2006 | Life

I can no longer back My Documents up on one DVD :p. There’s 166,000 files in there totalling about 4.8 Gb. It could use a clean out but do you realise how long that would take? I can’t waste that kind of time.
