Toby Carvery has outdone themselves. Their new range of desserts includes a freakshake that features a Yorkshire pudding with chocolate brownie in it.

Letter to Chaophraya

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 | Distractions

The letter campaign starts here.

To Whom It May Concern:

I have long been a fan of your restaurant, which I believe to be the finest Thai restaurant in Leeds.

One of the reasons I have enjoyed your restaurant so much is that you had a dish which consisted of Thai curry sauce, in a Yorkshire pudding, on a steak. As you’re no doubt aware, this is a dish that consists of the three most awesome foods in existence, and was therefore the greatest dish ever.

However, while dining at your restaurant in February, it appeared that the item had been removed from your menu.

If indeed it has been removed, I believe this to be a grave mistake, and one that I would implore you to reconsider.

Your restaurant created what is almost certainly the greatest dish that ever has existed and ever will exist, and for it to be lost forever to the annuals of history would be a great tragedy.

Please consider reintroducing it onto your menu.

Yours faithfully,
Rev Chris Worfolk

Since sending this, I received a very nice reply from Chaophraya saying my feedback would be considered at their regular menu reviews.

It’s gone!

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 | Life

Last Friday, we went for dinner at Chaophraya.

However, to my horror, I found they had removed their Thai curry, in a Yorkshire Pudding, on a steak dish from the menu! This, of course, was the greatest food ever known to man, and as such I will be writing a strongly worded letter to the management, insisting the dish is reinstated. Anyone who wishes to sign the petition, get in touch.

Queen’s Arms

Thursday, January 5th, 2012 | Life

With my auntie in Leeds for the weekend, we headed out for a family meal at the Queen’s Arms, which has since been taken over from it’s former life as a generic food-serving pub and become a Toby Carvery.

Overall, it was a mediocre experience. The staff were reasonably friendly, but they got one of our drinks orders wrong – a dilute orange arrived instead of a fresh orange, but my Gran not wanting to make a fuss bless her, just accepted it. That is until she tasted it and realised how weak it was.

The food was enjoyable, the meat was very nicely cooked, but the Yorkshire puddings really let the entire event down. To say we are actually in Yorkshire, they were the worst Yorkshire puddings I’ve ever had. The only comparison I can really make of them was that it was like eating a giant prawn cracker. Also, their strawberry ice cream turned out to be regular ice cream with a bit of strawberry sauce on, but the chocolate fudge cake was excellent.

Overall, I would rate the experience as acceptable, but below par. Maybe they just had a bad day with the Yorkshires, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Chaophraya

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 | Food, Reviews

Having decided to stage a curry night to discuss some of the pressing issues for Leed Skeptics I set about trying to find us a nice restaurant to enjoy said curry. I eventually settled on Cafe Guru – but they were full so we went to Chaophraya instead.

Luckily, they didn’t disappoint either. The service was excellent and the restaurant was well fitted out. It was however very easy and the place itself was quite cramped with the amount of tables they were fitting into the size space. In reality though, it’s hard to fault a place with does a Thai curry sauce, in a Yorkshire pudding, on a steak.

James gave the place a similar thumbs up though having later spoken to Gijsbert about it, he said that he had a good experience the first time but since then it has been poor – maybe we need a second visit to get a more well rounded view, which definitely sounds like an excuse to go back.
