Takeaway night

Friday, March 20th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Sunday saw us forego our usual restaurant trip in favour of staying in and getting takeaway. Myself and Craig went for Chinese which I feel was a very solid choice. If nothing else it provided me with some salted pork and chicken to eat the next day which is always a winning combination!

I can now also highly recommend the mini spring rolls from Canton Flavour, not that I have ever really had something from there I wasn’t impressed with. It turned out being not much cheaper than our usual night out though definitely worth it.

Bella Italia by electric light

Monday, February 23rd, 2009 | Events, Friends, Life

Our plans having been thwarted last week we finally made it to Bella Italia this week. And interestingly enough had the restaurant to ourselves with the only other people in there leaving just as we were arriving. Made for very speedy service which was very nice.

I started with the Calamari which was interesting and then moved on to the Pollo Arrosto which is chicken cooked in some kind of herbs or sause that involves garlic and something else. I can’t actually remember what it was but it made for good eatign none the less.

As usual we finished the night with a good bit of KFC for dessert. It’s a winning combination.

Flaming Dragon

Monday, February 16th, 2009 | Life, Reviews

Sunday evening saw us head down for a nice meal at Bella Italia.

Which was closed. Balls. It being rather late and the other Bella Italias being a bit of a mission away we decided to head to the Flaming Dragon which was also at Xscape and offered a taste of the orient in some kind of mega buffet.

To be fair it delivered quite well, the range of starters was quite impressive, indeed I spent most of my time there as it was probably better than the choice of mains (which was also good) and the dessert selection included crunchy nut corn flakes and an ice cream machine so the hybrid mix was obviously.

I got through quite a random mix of stuff including sushi, squid, seaweed, some kind of pork belly thing and a large selection of other dishes that I at least vaguely recognised. The quality of the food itself was buffet quality shall we say but that is to be expected, given it was a buffet and all.

Afterwards we still ended up at KFC because it’s like, the law. Plus it provided as a nice place to sleep the food off as my missing Twitter update indicated last night. Good times.

Starting the day right

Monday, February 9th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Did someone say recovery steak? My my yes.

Sunday saw the day start with a trip to the Deer Park for lunch with Si. Norm and Kate also joined us as well as Liz who I would describe as being hyper and never stopping talking, but she wasn’t hyper, that’s just Liz at baserate.

This was followed by an evening trip to Louisiana Bar & Grill at which my earlier mixed grill prevented me from making the obvious choice. They also had a 20oz steak which was very tempted but being resigned to trying something new and exciting I went for the swordfish steak. It was fairly disappointing to be honest but never the less an experience.

The best part of the restaurant was the table cloths you could draw on though. Clearly there was only one thing on our minds 😉 .

Aagrah

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Sunday saw us head to Aagrah in Garforth for a bit of Indian cuisine (or far more likely, a bit of Anglo-Indian cuisine lol). The food was quite nice though nothing special I thought but then it wasn’t overly pricey either.

Afterwards we headed over to KFC for dessert and it turns out the Avalanche is actually really, really nice. And at like a £1 you can’t really go wrong.

Chiquito

Monday, January 19th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Another Sunday night having rolled around we headed down to Birstall for a meal at Chiquito which the sign outside reliably informs me is the “original Mexican grill & bar.”

While I was a little disappointed by the food, that was mainly due to the size of the portions which as much as I complain is probably a good thing for me in the end. I feel it’s important my meal comes with as much vegetables as possible though as it’s like my one source of vegetables during the week lol.

Afterwards we headed back home via Hunslet to pick up dessert as Craig was on the close. I can highly recommend buying a McFlurry and a brownie and mixing them together, it’s a winning combination.

Double dating with Frankie & Benny

Monday, January 12th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Continuing our tour of a different restaurant each week which is still going strong now well into it’s second week 😉 , we headed over to Frankie & Benny’s for this week’s exciting Sunday night meal.

Unable to find anything new and interesting on the menu to try I decided to settle in for a nice mixed grill featuring a mere 23oz of meat. Rich also joined me with the choice though it turns out that 23oz isn’t actually that much meat and we both managed to work our way through it.

It was quite a nice restaurant, the staff were very friendly and the waitress even volunteered to take a group photo of us which I thought was more than tip worthy but apparently, I wasn’t allowed to leave one :o. Still, as was pointed out, we don’t get tipped at work so it’s personal preference I guess.

All in all, it was a good night even if I did eat a little too much lol. Roll on Mexican next week…

Nando’s by moonlight

Monday, January 5th, 2009 | Friends, Life

With the all-new Crusader pub quiz being a massive disappointment we headed over to Nando’s at Kirkstall for a dinner. This week’s event featured a guest appearance by Liz who I (and indeed everyone else) haven’t seen for ages and so a catch-up was long overdue.

I tried the pitta which wasn’t too bad, though unfortunately didn’t come with any chicken brain. Afterwards we headed to the pub next door which insisted on pumping out dance music but was at least bearable for a drink.

West end girls in east end bowling alleys

Monday, December 29th, 2008 | Events, Friends, Life

I’ve been listening to quite a bit of Pet Shop Boys recently, if only so I know how to keep Rich happy on Wednesday. Anyways…

After a moderate days work and having done my technical wizardry to help my uncle sort his network problems out, I headed off to meet everyone for the usual Sunday jaunt. Tension aside it was the usual night of good fun though because it’s holiday periods Xscape was rather busy – it took us 30 minutes to get a lane, we could only get one between the nine of us and only get one game in. But I don’t care too much as I don’t really go for the bowling.

Afterwards things got a little crazy though. Becky went for KFC! Not McDonalds, but KFC! I mean, that’s just insane. That’s now how Sunday nights work. These are crazy times we’re living in, crazy times…
