Borat film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: Borat travels to America on behalf of Kazakhstan to see what lessons can be learned for his country.

The good: It’s very funny. You will find yourself signing up to the Pamela Anderson mailing list though I wouldn’t spoil it by telling you why :p.

The bad: Lowbrow humour, some of the situations are just obviously set up.

Conclusion: If you enjoyed the series then it’s unmissable, if you’re a fan of things like Jackass, American Pie, silly comedies in general then it’s recommended.

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: 5 people, all obsessed with the Blair Witch Project go into the woods and come out alive – but they brought something back with them.

The good: Fantastic twist to achknowledge the first movie as a movie, some great camerawork, good storyline.

The bad: Those expecting a movie along similar lines as the first will have to look elsewhere.

Conclusion: In terms of hoping for a good sequel to the first film we couldn’t have asked for much more.

Blow film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: Johnny Depp plays George, a drug trafficker who narrates the story of his life from a nobody to a drug lord, and down again.

The good: Quite heart warming, as much as a film about a drug dealer really can be.

The bad: I’m not convinced it accurately portrays how difficult it is to smuggle drugs. Or it is actually easier than you think, though I hope that isn’t the case either.

Conclusion: It’s not quite the Shawshank Redemption, but it isn’t a million miles off either.

Blair Witch Project film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: 3 student film makers go into the woods in search of the legend of the Blair Witch. They were never seen again but a year later their footage was found and put together to form this movie.

The good: Well it was made by a group of student film makers who funded it with credit cards and they bulldozed Hollywood so that rocks. In terms of the movie, it’s scary and original.

The bad: The footage is from handheld cameras which really annoyed some people as it’s jerky. Plus there is none of the high budget effects and action Hollywood delivers.

Conclusion: It’s an awesome movie. Turn the lights off, light a few candles and begin exploring the legend.

American Pie 2 film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: The guys get together for a fun summer at the beach.

The good: Jim glues himself to himself, again it’s just a funny movie.

The bad: Doesn’t have the arc or story the first one did, doesn’t go anywhere, it’s just about the jokes and nothing else.

Conclusion: It’s quite a nice sequel. It doesn’t attempt to achive anything great but a sequel such as this would probably fail if it tried. So as it could have gone, this is a solid sequel.

American Pie film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: Four friends make a pact that they will get laid by graduation.

The good: It’s the defining teen comedy, it’s very funny.

The bad: It’s the kind of low-brow humour you expect from the genre.

Conclusion: It’s funny. Yeah it’s all teen sex jokes. But they are still funny.

American History X film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: When a former white racist gets out of jail he has to change his ways in order to save his younger brother from a similar fate. Basically it’s a tale of racism told in flash blacks as well as what is happening in the present day story.

The good: It’s quite strong, it’s a film about racism and is blunt about it.

The bad: Far from an action movie, not the happyest of endings.

American Beauty film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: Lester has a mid-life crisis, jacks in his job and begins to turn his life around, destroying the lives of those around him in the process.

The good: Fantastic story, Kevin Spacey, great camera shots, Sam Mendes did a great job directing it.

The bad: I would say long and emo so not for action fans. But I don’t want to put you off, because it isn’t. I can’t say bad about this film. Everyone loves it.

Conclusion: If for some reason you haven’t seen this movie yet, finish this sentence, go to Amazon and buy the DVD!
