High School Musical film review

Sucks. Ok, I know it is a kids movie but really, it’s awful. The plot is absolutely generic, it’s captain of the basketball team and head of the science club (who happens to be absolutely stunning for some reason because that’s how it works in real life, oh and they can both sing really well too, what are they like kings among men?) decide to do a musical because they are actually so much deeper than their sterotypes would suggest.
Even if you could accept that (as lots of movies do follow that type of plot) it’s pulled off in such a bad generic way that it makes a mockary out of an already overused story. Suddenly people become friends at the end – not “ok I’ll put up with you and sulk a bit” but “hey I love you guys and always have” even though they were just trying to screw them over five minutes ago.
The acting is good enough but the script nor production really gives them much of a chance to show it. Singing is obviously dubbed, the girl has a beautiful deep voice but is hardly moving her mouth as she walks around. What’s that about?
So yeah, if your small kid has never seen a movie before then they will probably enjoy it. But anyone with any kind of sense or knowledge of the real world will see right through it. Stay away.
