Return to Nando’s

Sunday, March 29th, 2009 | Friends, Life

People being very unoriginal and lazy (not to mention late) we were forced to repeat a restaurant tonight. Still at least we did it in style with Nando’s as you can never have too much chicken. Rich went for hot this time and after pointing out my lack of nerves for only going for medium proceeded to struggle to eat his food because it was too hot 😀 .

Afterwards we headed for some ice cream and I finally met our new store manager Matt who seems like a decent enough guy even if we barely exchanged any words. Still I’m sure I’ll find out in full next Saturday.

Chicken stew

Friday, March 27th, 2009 | Humanism, Life

On Thursday myself and Rich headed out to continue our work for the newly formed Humanist Action Group.

Rich had cooked up a chicken strew this week which we were hoping would be a little more popular than soup but apparently not. This was probably due to the fact that there were less people out this week but it didn’t help when one of them turns out to be a vegetarian.

It is good to see some people are really getting somewhere though, one woman who we talk to every week now has a job selling The Big Issue and as such is getting a house from the council too. It’s almost inspiring to think that we have only been doing this a few weeks and we’re already seeing people get back on their feet (not by anything we’ve done or anything, it’s just nice to see).

Takeaway night

Friday, March 20th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Sunday saw us forego our usual restaurant trip in favour of staying in and getting takeaway. Myself and Craig went for Chinese which I feel was a very solid choice. If nothing else it provided me with some salted pork and chicken to eat the next day which is always a winning combination!

I can now also highly recommend the mini spring rolls from Canton Flavour, not that I have ever really had something from there I wasn’t impressed with. It turned out being not much cheaper than our usual night out though definitely worth it.

Carvery

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Sunday saw another exciting night with Rich not being on the close and Craig not being at band we were able to meet up in The Mill beforehand and have a few drinks before heading off to the local Toby Carvery for a meal. There is just something so satisfying about saying “I’ll have every meat please” 😀 .

Bella Italia by electric light

Monday, February 23rd, 2009 | Events, Friends, Life

Our plans having been thwarted last week we finally made it to Bella Italia this week. And interestingly enough had the restaurant to ourselves with the only other people in there leaving just as we were arriving. Made for very speedy service which was very nice.

I started with the Calamari which was interesting and then moved on to the Pollo Arrosto which is chicken cooked in some kind of herbs or sause that involves garlic and something else. I can’t actually remember what it was but it made for good eatign none the less.

As usual we finished the night with a good bit of KFC for dessert. It’s a winning combination.

Galileo Day Feast

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 | Events, Humanism, Life

Sunday being Galileo Day we decided to celebrate in the traditional way with a Galileo Day Feast. Sunday would have provided far too much time to prepare so we held it on Monday night on which I didn’t get home until 6:30 so eating at 8pm wasn’t bad at all.

Flaming Dragon

Monday, February 16th, 2009 | Life, Reviews

Sunday evening saw us head down for a nice meal at Bella Italia.

Which was closed. Balls. It being rather late and the other Bella Italias being a bit of a mission away we decided to head to the Flaming Dragon which was also at Xscape and offered a taste of the orient in some kind of mega buffet.

To be fair it delivered quite well, the range of starters was quite impressive, indeed I spent most of my time there as it was probably better than the choice of mains (which was also good) and the dessert selection included crunchy nut corn flakes and an ice cream machine so the hybrid mix was obviously.

I got through quite a random mix of stuff including sushi, squid, seaweed, some kind of pork belly thing and a large selection of other dishes that I at least vaguely recognised. The quality of the food itself was buffet quality shall we say but that is to be expected, given it was a buffet and all.

Afterwards we still ended up at KFC because it’s like, the law. Plus it provided as a nice place to sleep the food off as my missing Twitter update indicated last night. Good times.

Sunday lunch

Sunday, February 15th, 2009 | Events, Friends, Life

I headed out to the Deer Park with Si this lunch time for Sunday lunch, perhaps somewhat in celebration of beating Charlotte by a good two hours on our closing race last night and because there is never a bad day to go for a pub lunch.

The real shock of the day is that having sat down and pretended to look at the menu before going for the same thing I always have, I actually choose something different this time! Sure I went for a burger rather than a steak but still, I think it’s big leap to actually alter my usual selection.

I really enjoyed today to be honest, it was nice that it was just the two of us, it’s an excellent chance to be cynical without someone dragging the mood up. Sunday lunch is about relaxed chat, a nice meal and then heading home for a nap, none of this hyper talkative nonsense. Just a relaxing lunch so I can drift off and pretend for an hour or two that I don’t have a pile of work to get through.

Aagrah

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 | Friends, Life

Sunday saw us head to Aagrah in Garforth for a bit of Indian cuisine (or far more likely, a bit of Anglo-Indian cuisine lol). The food was quite nice though nothing special I thought but then it wasn’t overly pricey either.

Afterwards we headed over to KFC for dessert and it turns out the Avalanche is actually really, really nice. And at like a £1 you can’t really go wrong.

Back home

Thursday, January 29th, 2009 | Life, Thoughts

In search of a good meal I headed back home yesterday as I also needed my dad to fix my car 😀 . Thankfully both services were provided so my car is once again oiled up and I’ve had a proper meal (as much as I love my sandwich dinners on the go) so it was well worth the trip.

It is certainly a sign I am getting old though, we ended up clearing out a lot of my old crap that I still have stored at home and there is so much stuff that I had as a child, all on it’s way to charity shops or landfill sites. Thought provoking times.
