Hugh’s birthday

Tuesday, July 30th, 2013 | Friends

Earlier this month we headed to Sam’s Chop House to celebrate Hugh’s birthday. It’s gone down hill a little since I first went there, and they don’t even have chops on the menu which I think is ridiculous (it’s not in any way unreasonable to expect Sam’s Chop House to serve chops), but there you have it. After, we headed to The Lounge for a few cocktails.

John Sweeney at Leeds Skeptics

Monday, July 29th, 2013 | Foundation, Humanism

Earlier this month we welcomed BBC Panorama reporter John Sweeney to present his talk “Oi! Scientology!”, a mini tour he is doing to support his book, Church of Fear. It was a bit of a shaky start when we couldn’t find John, but once resolved he gave us a highly entertaining insight into his experiences.

The discussions continued long after the event – indeed, it was nearly 2am by the time the last of us left the bar of Malmaison!

Lords & Ladies

Saturday, July 27th, 2013 | Books

The fourteenth book in the Discworld series is Lords & Ladies. It takes place in the Kingdom of Lancre and primarily centres around the witches, with a guest appearance from the wizards, but nothing too substancial.

One thing I did like about Lords & Ladies was the good use of humour, especially when it came to describing the many facets of Lancre society.

In an age where you can fly to Barcelona for £30, Bridlington is not faring well.

You can run…

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013 | Photos

Last year, I went to Finland to escape having to hear all about the Queen’s Jubile. This year, I went to Finland to avoid having to hear all about the royal baby. But as I took a stroll down Helsinki marina, what did I see? This…
