Blair Witch Project film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: 3 student film makers go into the woods in search of the legend of the Blair Witch. They were never seen again but a year later their footage was found and put together to form this movie.

The good: Well it was made by a group of student film makers who funded it with credit cards and they bulldozed Hollywood so that rocks. In terms of the movie, it’s scary and original.

The bad: The footage is from handheld cameras which really annoyed some people as it’s jerky. Plus there is none of the high budget effects and action Hollywood delivers.

Conclusion: It’s an awesome movie. Turn the lights off, light a few candles and begin exploring the legend.

American Pie 2 film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: The guys get together for a fun summer at the beach.

The good: Jim glues himself to himself, again it’s just a funny movie.

The bad: Doesn’t have the arc or story the first one did, doesn’t go anywhere, it’s just about the jokes and nothing else.

Conclusion: It’s quite a nice sequel. It doesn’t attempt to achive anything great but a sequel such as this would probably fail if it tried. So as it could have gone, this is a solid sequel.

American Pie film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: Four friends make a pact that they will get laid by graduation.

The good: It’s the defining teen comedy, it’s very funny.

The bad: It’s the kind of low-brow humour you expect from the genre.

Conclusion: It’s funny. Yeah it’s all teen sex jokes. But they are still funny.

American History X film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: When a former white racist gets out of jail he has to change his ways in order to save his younger brother from a similar fate. Basically it’s a tale of racism told in flash blacks as well as what is happening in the present day story.

The good: It’s quite strong, it’s a film about racism and is blunt about it.

The bad: Far from an action movie, not the happyest of endings.

American Beauty film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: Lester has a mid-life crisis, jacks in his job and begins to turn his life around, destroying the lives of those around him in the process.

The good: Fantastic story, Kevin Spacey, great camera shots, Sam Mendes did a great job directing it.

The bad: I would say long and emo so not for action fans. But I don’t want to put you off, because it isn’t. I can’t say bad about this film. Everyone loves it.

Conclusion: If for some reason you haven’t seen this movie yet, finish this sentence, go to Amazon and buy the DVD!

Aeon Flux film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: Aeon is a resistance fighter fighting against the Goodchild Dynasty – a totalitarian state which seems to provide harmony for its people in the last remaining human city on Earth, but of course all is not that rosy.

The good: Charlize Theron, the plot isn’t totally predictable.

The bad: While the plot isn’t predictable it is very, very generic.

Conclusion: Enjoyable movie, don’t go expecting to see anything new but go expecting to see something entertaining.

Accepted film review

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Reviews

The plot: When B fails to get into college he comes up with a scheme to invent a fake college and tell his parents he got in there. But soon the secret gets out and the college is flooded with potential students who thought they good accepted.

The good: There are some good jokes in there, it certainly has it’s moments.

The bad: It’s so amazingly unbelievable.

Conclusion: Once you look past the fact the story line is so stupid it’s actually quite a good laugh.

Every day I love you less and less

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Life

It’s been another long day. Did taekwondo 5-7 which was pretty good, we did some practice kicks, I almost new what I was doing for a lot of it so it’s all good. After that I headed off home for a family deal as it’s my uncles 50th birthday. Just got back from there as it happens.

Unfortunately this means I won’t get to bed until 2am at the earliest and I have a day shift, 12-8 tomorrow due to the fact I booked off the evening for Wendy House so I’m only going to get like 9 hours sleep in at most. I know that sounds like plenty but Saturday morning is my ONE day a week when I let myself have a nice sleep in. Every other day I’m working on less sleep than I would like, and i really, really love sleep so Saturday mornings are the one time of the week I look forward to more than anything else.

On the plus side it means that Wendy is tomorrow night. Though lots of people are bailing on it. Michelle, Sarann, Maths Chris, Izzy to name a few. I’m used to it now though, you lot are well rubbish. The hardcore members, namely myself, Sophie and Verity are all putting in appearances as usual. Sophie has promised not to get quite so drunk this time :D.

So yeah it’s going to be another mental weekend as normal. Working tomorrow, then rushing back to uni for Wendy then rushing back home next day to get the car back, then going to work, working all night and then getting up at some unpleasent time on Monday to get back to uni to begin my even more mental weekday schedule.

JD at The Old Bar

Friday, February 16th, 2007 | Life

Dan had the chance to come out for the night tonight which is a most rare occasion since a child fell out of his girlfriend. So we hit The Old Bar along with Si, Izzy and Michelle for a night of laid back drinking. It was a good night, we managed to keep the topic off computing for most of the night which is impressive for our circle and indeed it stayed off World of Warcraft as well.

Defrag

Friday, February 16th, 2007 | Life

I started Defragging my old laptop earlier and it’s a mission. It spent well over an hour on 1% before stopping for no apparent reason. It didn’t lock it just stopped as if it had completed. Yet when I ran the analysis again it told me I needed to defrag. So I’m now on the second iteration. It’s done 28% though it’s been there for ages.
