Dinner and Mario Kart

mariokart

Last month we met up with Craig, Zoe, Becky and Charlotte for some food at Cattle Grid. In a surprise twist, I had the ribs (to be fair, I did once get the steak. It was lovely to catch up with everyone, not to mention the generous baby gifts we received, including a little Superman outfit, complete with cape!

Afterwards, we headed to BrewDog for a drink and found that they had a GameCube with Mario Kart on. How I have missed that game. I am sure that if I actually had it, I would get bored of it pretty quickly. But the memories soon came flooding back as we dodged sandworms, bowser shells and banana skins. Maybe I should buy the baby a GameCube now, in case they stop selling them…

For my dad’s birthday we went to Cattle Grid in Leeds. We had ribs.

Elina strongly dislikes onions and tomatoes, so I think I was pretty safe from her stealing some of my salad.

Wagyu

Wagyu, also known as Kobe (technically, Kobe is a breed of Wagyu), is the finest steak in the world. If there was an argument for the existence of God, and that that God had created all animals for man to eat, Wagyu would be it – their meat has a high fat content which causes wonderful marbling that makes it extra delicious.

Cattle Grid, part of the local ribs quarter that has formed around Norm, George and myself, were running a special one-night-only (that they ran twice) in which you could get Wagyu for the reasonable price of £35 (reasonable for Wagyu anyway), so we headed down.

It was superb. One of the best steaks I have ever had, if not the best.

That said, given it is normally three times the price of a fillet cut, I’m not sure I would opt to pay full price for it. I’m glad I’ve tried it, but I don’t think it’s as delicious as three separate trips to the stake house.

Cattle Grid

For my birthday, we headed out to Cattle Grid for some steak.

There was a total of fourteen of us, making us not only the biggest group in the restaurant, but also bigger than all the other groups put together lol. I was particularly honoured by the attendance of Katie Barr, Sarann and Moz, who attended despite their vegetarian and vegan lifestyles!

As with my first visit, I went for the ribs which were excellent, but overall I was a little disappointed – the food took a long time to arrive and it didn’t arrive all at once. Jonni also had to send his steak back. Never the less, I had an enjoyable meal and finished off with their strawberry ice cream, which is delicious though suggests I didn’t order enough meat.

Return to Cattle Grid

On Friday, myself, Norm and George headed back to Gattle Grid for some more steak.

Having had the ribs last time I opted to try the steak this time, though I was somewhat torn because the ribs were amazing. They are definitely the best thing on the menu, once again being bigger than the plate when Norm’s meal was delivered.

The steak was excellent, so not quite up to the standards of Blackhouse. For the price though, you can’t really go wrong.
