We made too much food. But not quite as much as we normally over-make…

Winter Solstice Meal 2012

Friday, December 14th, 2012 | Humanism

It’s hard to believe that us non-believers have now been getting together for six years to celebrate the holiday season with a meal. This year saw us visit an old classic – Spice Quarter.

They were surprisingly quiet for the Christmas period – I thought it would be rammed but someone even got a walk up table while we were there.

There was also a chav-tastic moment when we spotted a young lady wearing what I can only describe as a “magician’s assistant” leotard, covered in a thin net skirt that didn’t cover anything.

Thai Edge buffet

Friday, February 3rd, 2012 | Food, Friends, Reviews

Last weekend I headed over to Thai Edge for lunch with Si and Sarann. On Sundays they do a buffet, so you’re forced to have that – but being a buffet they have everything, so it’s not particularly restrictive.

It was good food and a nice selection. Though I think having spent so many years going to Spice Quarter and Red Hot World Buffet, I think my view of what the average buffet has to offer is in all other circumstances going to leave me disappointed.

They did have a chocolate foundation though there seemed to be an emphasis on taking fruit and dipping it in the chocolate – I just put my bowl under the foundation as that seemed like the only effective way to get a sufficient quantity to feed my habit. It was a bit disappointing though, as the chocolate itself tasted of the cooking variety.

All in all, it was OK, but I think I would prefer to go when they are serving their regular menu.

Work social

Monday, July 4th, 2011 | Life

Recently, we headed out to Revolution for a work social. We started with a buffet dinner, which was very nice, but then I really hate buffets because, as a Yorkshireman, I have to eat until I can eat no more to get my value for money, and that is quite frankly, uncomfortable. Never the less it was quite a good night though starting tailing off at around midnight so we headed home.

I’m Australian. I’m from Melbourne.

Last night we headed out to say goodbye to Craig, as well as welcoming a few new faces to the company. We started off at Cuthbert Brodrick which was crazy busy but awesome as always before heading to Red Hot World Buffet.

Even though our table wasn’t booked until 9:30, they didn’t get us sat down for over twenty minutes and then once we were sat down, they had the cheek to tell us ten minutes in that they would be closing the buffet at 11! Despite the food being excellent, this kind of service simply wasn’t on so after a quick chat with the manager we also found ourselves with a free round of drinks, which went quite a way to making up for it.

Afterward we hit Selabar followed by Smoke Stack, both great bars that I had never actually been to before and thanks to Rebecca’s contacts at Smoke Stack we managed to miss the queues and get some amazing drinks too – it’s quite nice having some Old Money in the office 😀 .

Christmas party

Friday, January 9th, 2009 | Life

Last night saw the long awaited work’s Christmas party.

Turn out wasn’t particuarly good, we got about 20-25 people of the 50-odd we have on the books and indeed some people were stuck at work with us being unable to find cover (how rubbish is that!) but I think it was far more noticable because from my generation either simply don’t work there anymore or have lost interest in such ventures.

Still there were enough people there to provide ample conversation and in any case we could at least enjoy a fun night of watching Crabs (who, the best way I can describe her alcoholic type behaviour is to say she is like a young Michelle, though not quite on the same level yet) try and stay on her feet having had a little too much to drink 😀 .

There was also a rather large buffet, to the tune of £800s worth of food which had been laid on. I think I saw one person go up there, so money well spent really. As I explained to someone I think was Emma the regional manager, if they aren’t going to bother to lay on hot, fresh food then we’re just not interested. Though that didn’t stop us from taking a plate home at the end of the night!

All in all it was a pretty good night though personally I would have prefered it if it was just our store as I think would quite a few other people. Good times none the less though, and I’m most looking forward to tooking into my left over chicken 😀 .
