Thoughts on Mental Monday

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006 | Life

Last night was Monday night which means Bondi. Tonight was my 6th consecutive Mental Monday to be exact although it may not make it to the 8th as we are thinking of trying Fruit Cupboard. Next week should be solid though, Michelle is planning to take Rachael there.

Tonight was a fun night. Lunn and John came as well as Claire and the Maths Chris, B, Norm, Phil and others crowd so there was quite a lot of us there. I took my camera too so once I got home and had, had some food I was uploading the pictures to Facebook :D.

On the downside though, tonight has left me feeling slightly depressed about my current love life or lack there of. I’m sure it will pass, I just need sleep. Well, that’s a temporary fix anyway.

What happened yesterday

Monday, May 8th, 2006 | Life

Spent most of yesterday (indeed almost all of yesterday) working on the new LUU Film Making Society website. I took a long shower to mull over what would be the best way to implement my integration with phpBB but in the end I couldn’t decide so I just started coding a forum myself. It’s working out quite well actually given that I need very, very limited functionality only and I integrated the posting boxes into the view forum and thread topics so the amount of times was very small.

Michelle also came over as she was bored and we ended up watching Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. It’s a classic LL movie. Although I feel I have a lack of movies with me at Bod, we were flicking through them last night and there wasn’t much I was thinking I would actually want to sit through.

Tonight is Monday which means Bondi. Yay :D.

Brass Eye is awesome

I’ll let the guide to prison slang speak for itself…

“Howard’s Arse” means “Prison”

“One nil at half time” means “Food”

“Woggy coconuts” means “air breaks”

“Gazza” is a “gas coin”, used as currency for cigarettes.

“Plank sanction” is a one-for-one fag exchange.

“Sue my chin” means give us a fag, I’ll give you two next week.

“Buff my pylon” – give us a fag, you owe me two, so I’m letting you off the other one.

“Don’t buff my pylon” – switch over the telly.

And lastly, very important this one:

“Portillo” means “Look out behind you”

Learn the language, better communication.

Today, tonight

Finished lectures today! Went to the Quilted Lama with Michelle, Sarann, Kieran and Raby (and George although he didn’t eat) and made use of the 2 for 1 on all main meals offer. We then spent the afternoon sitting around in Hyde Park and getting sun burnt. Need to buy sun cream. Which is just silly considering a) this is Leeds and b) it’s only the start of May.

We couldn’t decide what to do this evening and Sarann bailed on us so me and Michelle decided to play the Buffy drinking game where you stick an episode on and there are certain events that trigger a drink (or more, depending on rarity of the event). It’s a fun game although it takes a while to remember all the situations that trigger drinking so at the start you are drinking very little.

Tomorrow was going to be my lie in day but I need to up in 7 hours. Bah, now lectures are over I didn’t want to be having to drag myself out of bed. Still, Sunday should be a good day for sleeping.

Our last summer

Thursday, May 4th, 2006 | Life

This has got me thinking of the Lostpropets song by a similar title now. Anyway, something do DC just happened!

Got back from home at about 10ish or something and everyone from Grant House (well not everyone but there was like 70-80% of us there or something) was just sat out back, sitting around drinking, BBQing, playing guitar and singing along, we’ve only just finished now (gathering got broken up by the night porter guy).

It was so cool, we were just sat round in t-shirts, shorts, etc at like 11:30 pm and singing aand such. And it was dark so I wasn’t out in direct sunlight :p. Score!

Jimmy: the early years

Thursday, May 4th, 2006 | Life

Speaking to a friend recently who started telling this story of a guy he once walked up to uni on a Sunday with from Clarance Dock where they were both staying last year. We got on to the subject by talking about the internet, internet dating, etc.

Anyway, this person was dating some girl in America. They were in love and had been going out for years. Hmm I thought, I’m sure I know someone who is in that sort of relationship. The story then went on to explain how he basically socialised online and never came out to the pub. He even got his shopping online so he never really needed to leave his room (a nerds dream!). Wow, this is starting to sound really familar.

A theory started to form in my mind. “Was he wearing a leather jacket?” The thing that finally clinched it, beyond the fact he was moving into a house with his friend next year (now this year, the friend I worked out was Jay) was when the story went on to role playing soc. It was Jimmy! How cool is that? A story comes out in a conversation about someone this guy had only met once and it turned out to be Jimmy. That’s just soooo cool.

Committee dinner party

Thursday, May 4th, 2006 | Life

Just got back from the first committee dinner party for film making society. We had our first official meeting today. I booked us in to meeting room 7, the union put us in meeting room 2 so that wasted 15 minutes of the meeting but we didn’t need it anyway. We finished at 6 even though we had a room booked for two hours.

We have so many plans too. I took minutes at the meeting which is like half a side of bullet points plus I have another, longer list that I wrote down this evening. The dinner party itself was great, the good was excellent and we came up with so, so many plans!

This year is going to be year of the film making society!

Mental Monday report

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006 | Life

A little short on time so I might expand on this later. Went to Bondi last night with Fonze, John, Claire, Maths Chris and an expanded social circle. I was hoping Sophie and Lunn would turn up too. They didn’t but we still had 9 of us.

It was a pretty good night but the bouncer was giving Fonze trouble because he hadn’t got his NUS card sorted. He said it was the last week he would be allowed in without one which is BS as that was the 5th Monday in a row we had been at Bondi (Fonze actually missed last week but I was still there with people), why do they have to be such assholes?

I mean, I’ve been coming solidly for over a month and I’ve been several times before then too plus I brought no less than 9 people including myself last night, that’s £90 for them and it wasn’t exactly packed. And we still get treated like dirt. I’m seriously thinking of moving my custom elsewhere.

I checked a book out of the library

Monday, May 1st, 2006 | Life

Been at uni almost a year now (well in uni years, the uni year is almost over, it won’t be a linear year until September) and I’ve just checked a book out of the library for the first time :p. Ok, I’m not that bad though, I’ve used the library several times before it’s just that I have never checked one out of the library before, I always just read it in there. But yeah, I just checked one out. Go me!
