Open Door Design does Christmas

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Yesterday was the first of two Christmas parties at my office. The first of two because we’re really busy at the moment so didn’t want to have a full on night and so decided to go out for a meal last night and have a proper drinking session in January. Of course last night turned rather heavy as everyone knew it would but there you go.

We started off at the Cuthbert Broderick which was absolutely packed. I don’t understand why there were so many people out on a Thursday night, maybe because it’s so close to Christmas, maybe because Thursday is just a heavy night in Leeds. In any case, I wasn’t too impressed.

Dinner was at Ha Ha Bar also in Millenium Square which was a bit of a mixed bag. The starters were very small indeed while the main course wasn’t too bad but basically you just get some kind of meat on a dish and then a few potatoes and vegetables to share. To be fair to them though the steak was cooked very nicely but then it’s not like they gave you a choice how you wanted it.

Once we’d eaten we headed out round a few bars including the one in the German Christmas market which was an interesting experience (and where I happened to run into Rosie and Danny) and then worked our way down to the Headrow. By this time it was gone midnight and so with only half our number remaining I decided to head home. Nick was buzzing and so headed off with Tom and Dean for further beers (no suprises there lol).

The damage from last night showed when I rolled up to the office to find I was the first person there. Tom arriving soon after informed me that he had gotten in 5:30 that morning having goten through a great deal of antics including Mojos, breaking up several fights and a cup of tea in Little London. Good stuff.

You are winner

It’s finally happened. I finally beat everyone else to work.

Only by 2 minutes, Nick turned up with Tom just after I had arrived but never the less. Good job I didn’t turn up really early really, I was going to be in well before I actually made it in but a combination of having to load my car up with more stuff than I was expecting and increased traffic (which is probably what slowed everyone else down though) I was delayed somewhat.

I did however find Craig working drive thru at Oakwood which was a pleasant suprise. Apparently he hadn’t quite sobered up from last night yet, so he was in the right place for a recovery breakfast when he did. Good times.

Corporate blogging

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

At Open Door Design we’ve just re-launched our brand and as part of it we have added a blog to the website, the idea behind it being that it would give you a bit of an insight into the lives and thoughts of the people behind the company.

“It’s your blog and you can do what you want with it” I was told.

That was before my post was pulled lol. As was Tom’s. Apparently having a life outside of the company may suggest that he would be rather out there making films than be at work. Which is silly. Of course we would :D. Film making is loads of fun, I should know having served on the committee of LUU Film Making Society for a year.

But there you go, that is corporate blogging. End of the day I guess it is down to the company and it’s not like they are restricting what I can see elsewhere like Leeds University Union try to do. It just seems to make the whole idea of the blog a little pointless.

The nights are drawing in

When I left work on Wednesday, it was dark.

Though that was mainly due to the fact that I didn’t leave work until 21:45. That was a long meeting. Dean said it would finish around 6 when we first planned it. Of course none of us actually believed that it would ;).

I headed over to Napa to get in a quick drink for Michelle’s pub thing before finally grabbing some dinner and going home to get some work done. Managed to get to bed at 2am which wasn’t going to result in a good night’s sleep. Still as long as the podcasting session the next day didn’t go on too late…

More job based commentary

It’s week two of my job at Open Door Design and it’s coming along nicely. I’ve been working around with one of their previous big sites which I’ve really been able to get my teeth into and rip apart. It’s everything you expect when you get into the real world, I’ll leave you to fill in what that means :D.

Work

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

So, I started work this week.

It’s not the best thing ever to be honest. I have to get up and dressed at like 8am. Not pm - am!

Still, the job itself is pretty good. While I’m currently in the getting myself up to speed stage I think once I get my teeth into some good projects it is going to be an excellent job. Plus the people are really nice and friendly and we’re just round the corner from Elland Road McDonald’s. What more could you ask for?
