Charity quiz night

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

We held another charity quiz night at A-Soc last Tuesday. Unfortunately there was a lack of turn out but those that did brave the cold all enjoyed themselves and a vast array of raffle prizes resulted in a lot of winners – some people even winning twice! Most importantly of course, my team took home the win for the quiz and by quite a long way too . Even more impressive for the rest of the team when you find out that Nicola, who claims to be doing a biology degree, couldn’t answer any of the biology questions :D .

09/09/09 Party

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

By Wednesday evening Lil had been up for over 24 hours having worked nights on Tuesdays and then fueled herself up on Relentless. Or crack, it’s hard to tell the difference when someone the size of Lil drinks an entire can of Relentless. As we haven’t seen the can, or the crack, whichever one it actually was, I guess we’ll never know.

So the obvious thing to do in this situation was to head over to Nicola’s 09/09/09 party celebrating the fact it was the 9th of September 2009 – an idea she had only made up the night before while drunk at the A-Soc social and had just invited “very special friends” to despite the fact that there were over 70 people on the Facebook guest list.

Tea Party

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

As Nicola finally finished her resits on Tuesday, Wednesday night was dedicated to a tea party at hers in celebration. The kind of tea party that involves lots of alcohol of course :D . Nicola and Kate had also been down to give blood that day so Nicola was wasted by the first drink!

Long night drinkin’

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

On my way home from Aidan’s leaving do I decided to stop by The Library for a quick one just to say hi to everyone. Turns out that everyone was not that many people with none of the other committee being there, though apparantly Sophie had dropped by briefly earlier on.

So in the end to keep the party going I ended up staying there for a fare bit of time before getting a text with Nicola asking if we were still at the pub. I said we were going to be heading off soon but suggested we grab a quick pint down at the station so we ended up down there until nearly midnight, which didn’t really make for the early night I was hoping for but did give me chance to catch up with people which was good.

Limited or no connectivity

Thursday was an evening of problems. Having left work at a reasonable time to run home and get a shower I phoned Nicola to sort out times for the evening. Which didn’t work because her phone is broken. And her backup phone is lost. That is like a double RAID array failure. I did say that girl was trouble.

Anyway I Facebooked her all the details but she didn’t reply. Running late I decided to run by Parkinson building anyway just to see if she had got the message and turned up but she hadn’t. So I headed off towards Rich’s when I got a phone call from her asking where I was as she was about to get to Parkinson :D .

Minor problems compared to when we got down to Rich’s and realised that we didn’t actually have a flask for the coffee lol. Rich had left his at Rationalist Week and mine was packed away somewhere but apparently not in my HAG bag so we ended up having to make a short trip to Tesco for some cold drink alternatives as well as some food.

In the end it all worked out rather nicely though as we made it back just in time for Question Time.

Sarah’s leaving party

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

I headed over to Nicola’s for what was loosely to be described as Sarah’s leaving party. I say loosely because I don’t really know Sarah and I only just saw her at the party – she arrived just as I was heading out the door.

Never the less it was an interesting evening. Basically Nicola just spend the whole time getting berrated for not knowing anything about her degree subject. Good times ;) .

Love over gold

Friday, April 10th, 2009

I’ve just put the album on and am currently mulling over how well it sums up Humanism. I mean, it would seem to sum it up very nicely indeed but then if I was to make a choice I would have to choose gold. Might have to give it some more thought.

Along those lines, the Humanist Action Group headed out on Thursday to do our usual trip round. As normal there were two of us which is interesting given 17 people decided to join the HAG group on Facebook and proudly display it on their profile.

Interestingly though it was at least a different two this week. Rich was unable to make it has he has retreated back to his parents for a while due to illness so myself and Nicola headed out. Turns out there were quite a lot of people out, which is a good thing in one respect and a bad way in others. Strange feeling really.

The cold streets

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

On Thursday myself and Rich headed out once again, this time joined by Nicola, to do our bit. We were going to do a bit of cooking beforehand but Rich was unfortunately detained at work and so we ended up doing soup again, not that it is overly a bad choice.

There seems to be a fair bit of interest in the group now which hopefully will continue to grow and we can expand our activities.

Atheist Society at large

Liz isn’t drunk!

She wanted to stress this quite a lot last night.

Nicola however was far more open about her level of intoxication.

But let’s rewind for a second. The evening started with the usual commitee meeting to which Kate didn’t turn up to (because apparently she had bailed on London but was too scared to tell me or Norm face to face) nor die Rosie who apparently is putting her degree ahead of A-Soc (but not ahead of the pub, /judge),

The meeting went well given that Norm forgot his talk and indeed all of the A-Soc stuff, it was rather well attended which was good to see which both together was a bit of a shame as the topic really has a lot of potential especially given recent events. Still there was some good discussions, especially at the pub afterwards so all is good.

The talk was on discrimination against atheists which as we found out when we got into discussions is very wide spread in society which is already fairly evidence despite the fact that we actually make up the majority.

Becky bailed on the pub which was disappointing but both Brett and Nicola arrived, killing any rumour that they had eloped to Mexico together but we can’t rule out the plan being put in place for a later date. I left shortly before midnight with a few hard core A-Soc’ers still hanging on. As ever these days, a rather good night.
