Would you like fries with that?

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

Well you can’t have any. Because yesterday Colton Mill ran out :D. And somebody had to go chasing all the way over to Oakwood to get some. Fun times.

Moving on and up

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Got two interesting pieces of news at work today.

First of all, my long, long awaited (and some would say long overdue :D) promotion to staff trainer is finally official. I scored a rather disappointing 42 out of 50 on my exam but given, a) you only need 40 to pass and b) I beat Neil by one mark, I guess that will suffice. So I should finally be on a half decent rate of pay which will be nice. Ha, I’ll need it with the amount of time I’ve booked off work over the next few months.

Secondly, today I had “the talk” from Kath. It was in the rumour mill that myself and Neil were going to be offered it which I’m quite glad about as it gave me a little time to think about what my response would be even if it was only for a hypothetical situation. Basically, I’ve been offered the job of shift running manager.

I told her I would need a week to think about it but to be honest, I think I have already made up my mind.

What’s it all worth?

Do you know how much money I got in my last pay cheque? £370! 12 out of the 14 days of that pay period I worked and all I came away with was £370. I think I must have been raped by tax because I was on over £400 pre-tax before my last shift.

All in all I’m realising how much of a bad shape my overdraft is in. Once my credit cards are paid off it’s going to take 4 or 5 weeks to clear it on full time pay and I have about 3 weeks left. While I still have my student loan to come in, I have rent going out and I got hit by a massive phone bill from when I was sorting out our BT line and internet for the house.

Still hopefully I should be able to generate some kind of decent pay cheque next time. At the moment I need to pick up some more shifts to fill my days off but I made a good start today - I clocked into work at 05:45 in the morning and I’ve just got home now. Open closes for the win.

Long day

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

I clocked into work at 5:45am yesterday morning. And clocked out at 2:10am this morning.

Long day. You simply can’t beat a good open close. I did the whole thing on only 3-4 bottles of Kick as wel (I brought 12, just in case :D). Having done my open shift which finished at 3, I went home to grab an hour sleep before going back to do a 7-close. It’s the second open close I’ve done though this one was significantly longer than the last one though I worked straight through last time. I can honestly say I’m glad it’s over though.

The foreign concept of mornings

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

These opens are killing me. I’m having to get up before 5am! I’m not normally in from work by that time. Fairly easy shifts though, there isn’t really much of a rush at any point like you get on closes over dinner time. It’s got the fairly nice and laid back feel which is the best thing about closes. Which I’m back on tomorrow. Too much sleep pattern adjustment for my liking.

Living life as a 24 hour day

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Saturday 30 June will go down in history as the day Michelle got her breasts out in Bar Censsa.

Having done my second ever open at work in the morning (I actually made it to work at like 5:50am, go me) I went to pick up my keys for the house in the evening and help Michelle move some stuff. Afterwards I headed home to sort some stuff before going back to town to meet Michelle as well as some friends from work.

We ended up at Sports Cafe for a few hours followed by hitting Bar Censsa where we spent the rest of the night. It was a pretty good night, it’s free entry all night and the music is along similar lines to most places. Plus it’s not the busiest place so you get served at the bar at a decent speed.

Days off are for suckers

Friday, June 29th, 2007

It’s been a long week. I was on the close at work last Friday. And Saturday. Sunday. Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday. And last night. 7 closes in a row no less. I like to think that’s pretty hardcore. It’s lagging a bit behind the store record but now too far behind anyone who is still currently working there. So over the last week I’ve done somewhere in the region of 70 hours worth of shifts.

It’s all good though because I have today off. I mean sure, it’s 2pm now and I’ve only just got up because I didn’t get to bed until 6am this morning and sure, I need to be in bed by 9pm tonight because I start work at 6am tomorrow morning so only have 7 hours of my day off to actually enjoy but other than that it’s all good.

Living for the metaphorical weekend

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Guess how many hours I’m scheduled next week.

45.15.

45! 5 closes, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. That doesn’t include my breaks and that is presuming we are out at 2am. We haven’t been out before 2am in a while now, especially on weekends where before 3 is a goos time. So it will probably be looking to be more like 50 when you take into account what time we will actually be getting out.

In terms of who has the most hours I’ve beaten everyone in the store but one - Joby works 6 opens a week. I’ve beaten all the other staff though including all the managers. But then, who needs sleep anyway?

The rise and fall of Doctor Worfolk

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I had my 8 month performance review at work yesterday. It’s depressing to think I’ve worked there for 8 months already but on the plus side I scored another 5 (aka “outstanding”). Suck on that Neil. More importantly though Martin told me to start the application process to get promoted to Training Squad.

It’s ironic really that such a promotion is going to look fantastic on my CV especially when I word it as “I am responsible for staff training in the restaurant and upkeep of procedures” given that my CV is a document I hope never to have to use again. But at least on the short term it will result in a bit more money (providing they get it through before I hit 21, which is again depressing).

Day nine

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Happy Gilmore on DVD for £2.97 - that is what I’m talking about.

Anyway, yeah, I made it! Came down ill that day and only just hauled my ass into work but I got through it eventually. Long night though, didn’t start feeling alright until I had finished work and I’m still not feeling great now. Now I just have to survive till payday.
