Whois correction

Saturday, December 31st, 2005 | Life

Just gone through the first half of the alphabet worth of domains in my RegisterFly account correcting the whois. Will do the second half later. Sometime today I also have to decide what I am going to do with all my Klingon domains. I should probably let them expire but I love all my domains, I just don’t think I can do it.

WordPress 2.0 is out

Friday, December 30th, 2005 | Life

On December 26th WordPress quitely released version 2.0. They don’t seem to have mentioned it on the main site but the download page has it and on the Planet WordPress blog they mention it but they don’t really go into details so I’m uploading it now to have a play around with it on my new site.

It also appears to have the Akismet spam plugin at least shipping with it, if not already installed.

New site idea

Friday, December 30th, 2005 | Life

I’m toying with an idea for a new site that’s basically along the line of Lieing News. It’s like an entertainment news blog except all the stories on it are complete BS. It’s so much earier than reporting real news. Actually it’s harder as you can’t just copy it off MSNBC and it needs to be a little funny, but still.

Server offerings

Friday, December 30th, 2005 | Life

A while ago I upgraded my VPS to a better package but the problem is, it’s still packed out. My server just can’t handle the traffic. So I’ve been looking around for something better. The best I have found so far is Steadfast Networks.

They offer a 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor, 1 GB memory, 120 GB hard drive, cPanel / WHM dealie for $165 a month with an hour of management time although it’s an extra $75 a month for the ultra management dealie where basically they will do pretty much everything you want other than coding your websites.

Play.com’s sale is bullshit

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005 | Life

As much as I love Play.com’s prices I think their attitude is total bullshit. I decided to head over to have a browse through their “biggest ever sale.” I noticed they had Curb Your Enthusiasm boxsets listed so I decided to check them out as I love Curb.

The new “biggest ever sale” price? £11.99. That’s the normal price! They are always priced £11.99 on Play.com. It’s not a special offer at all.

I’m back!

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005 | Life

Well I’m back from my skiing trip. I have major catch-up to do with my emails, celeb news sites, entertainment blogs, loads of stuff needs doing. Going to have to do some mad days soon but it’s not like I would be doing anything else anyway ;).

The terror of Santa

I love browsing the internet and randomly bumping into amusing stuff. Like this. Gang Of Santa’s Terrorize New Zeland. What a wacky country.

Pace of the internet

Monday, December 19th, 2005 | Life

It’s well know that the technology industry is very fast paced and all, but is it? Well, yes. But then again with websites, everything moves a little slower. Because it takes time for websites to build up a reptuation, get into search engines, get back links, etc, things often have a much longer development period than it seems.

I’m often working on projects that won’t pay off until 6, 12 months down the line. For instance, my new blogs aren’t really going to start picking up on search engine traffic for months while the search engines get used to them and it will be years before they are fully trusted.

Sites on xmeltrut.com which I launched 6 months ago or even longer, maybe in 2004, are only really now starting to really pick up traffic.
